I've grown to hate the American race broadcasts, especially the pre-race. As fantastic as Sky's team usually is, they seem to dumb down their regular Sunday show as if Americans are Formula 1 dummies that need everything spoon-fed to them. And just like last fall's Austin race, why in the heck does anyone believe Danica Patrick holds any shred of credibility speaking on F1??? She doesn't. I can assure the Sky producers that knowledgable American race fans think Danica's a complete joke whose career lasted as long as it did because of her looks... er, I mean because of her marketability.

You can't really blame Sky Sports too much for this, IMO. Bringing in DP helps as all the stupid Americans who are into racing will latch onto her as an "authority" on racing because she is all they know (plus her "marketability", too :smug:).

She's not my type so I am immune, really. :thumbsup:

It was a strange race for me..Probably the course was weird...it was was!
The pre race shamble through the over crowded paddock..I felt bad for Martin Brundle..and seems to not command the respect due.
A thrilling crash or two, but far less than I was anticipating.
Four people I really like battling on the front row in my favorite cars, Red Bull and respected brand, Ferrari.
I feel bad for Lewis..Great guy..and very happy for George Russel...He has got it!
McLaren , I hoped to do better.
Lance Stroll got in the points...Go Canada!!
Was really rooting for Haas yesterday...M Schumacher had a good run and battle, but disappointing result!
Good for Williams getting 9th with Alex Albon,,,that is encouraging

As I said on Basschat this morning, they just need to get Ronda Rousey to mud wrestle Serena Williams down on the grid walk. With real mud, not Sears poncho faux marina mud.

Martin is probably a total unknown for most Americans, and certainly not so among the celebs who overcrowd the grid. Personally, I think there should be more scrutiny in who gets a pass to go on the grid.

There's nothing to be gained by dumbing down your show and aiming low.

If you were in charge of airing a pro baseball game, would your analysts be college softball players? Both games have bats and balls. :smug: Of course not, as this would be a silly move.

I don't see why Sky didn't do their usual show with their regular crew. Their regular show is spectacular.

I'm pretty sure the "pregame warmup" was an ABC network creation. Not a SKY production. Like marketing departments everywhere, ABC was probably attempting to appeal to the lowest common denominator and F1 newbie fans. And non F1 fans they were hoping to convert. Gee, look at how fabulous Miami is. Look at the attractive female former racer. And let's not get too technical and scare away any potential audience. Lest we forget, ESPN is 80% owned by ABC which is a Disney subsidiary. Can you say "mass market media"?

If you think Miami was a bit "shmaltzy" and full of of fluff, wait till they do Vegas next year. :laugh:

To receive their F1 coverage, I can only imagine many other English-speaking countries are doing exactly what ESPN does in the U.S. -- flip the switch and take in Sky's feed. No studio shows, none of your own on-air personalities, no trying to improve upon something that's already excellent... just pay the folks across the pond, punch the button and take in what works.

In Europe, there's usually a studio team, and in some cases they will have someone in the comment booth at the track, plus a roving reporter. In the Netherlands, Olav Mol held the commentator seat for 30 odd years, then this year ViaPlay took over the franchise and they did not bother to hire him. Not sure ViaPlay is attracting quite the numbers of paying viewers they must be counting on - the Dutch usually live up to their reputation, and Mol has a strong fan base.

... just realized I was watching F1 the past few years because my cable TV included F1, but the other major cable TV providers probably did not. And no, I'm not paying anything just to watch F1.

Oh well, so much for philosophical waxing...
Turns out a brake disc failed on the old gal, thats why Leclerc crashed.
