Frets annoy me

I very first started on upright, actually I will retake the upright, maybe that´s why frets and I are not so good friends….
If all you play is slap on your fretted basses, it's probably best to move on.
interesting is I slapped on a fretless and liked it. The type of strings is important here but the slightly muted and mid range slap is kind of cool.
I was thinking of removing my frets…
but just the ones above the twelfth fret.
For me it´s all or nothing...
I also think, from a visual point of view that frets breakes the continuous design lines of a bass….

I love both personally, different tools for different sounds and textures....Nothing wrong with feeling restricted or uncomfortable on the fretted though...if that's how you feel then that's how you feel and nobody can deny you that. If you want my tuppence though, for what it's worth I personally think it's prudent to be comfy and at ease on both so you don't restrict yourself stylistically or professionally.
That said I need to practice more on my fretless and my upright too for that matter, so I'll just see my self out....lol

Exactly, I play whatever the gig calls for, upright, electric (either fretted or fretless), fingers or pick on electric. It doesn't matter to me.

I agree. I´m not discarding the fretted forever, I´ll keep one around too. But basically I want to master the fretless to be my main and keep the fretted around for if a song really asks for a fretted.
And a last news, my father wants to buy me an upright as a present. I, of course, told him I would´t mind at all
Emanuel, may I ask what strings you used for slap on fretless. Nickels? Stainless?
It was a stingray 5 fretless with pau ferro fingerboard and had d´addario Chromes.
Also had a MIA Jazz fretted with Sadowsky flats and had a great slap tone.
Also my current Adamovic Halo with Sadowsky flats has a really rich slap tone.
But I wouldn't use L´abella flats or Fender flats if I want to slap. The Sadowsky and Chromes are more of a modern flats to me.

The chromes on my yamaha trb5Iif sound like $#it for slap. On the other hand they are fine for fingerstyle. Tons of mwah all over the fingerboard.
You will like it, although it may take some getting used to. I have the spruce top ubass fretless and the solid body American California fretless in five string. They only come lined which is almost a necessity to play with those short scales. They are a joy to play!
