I only learned about these a week ago, gotta have one now.

I love my '80s L2000, and I've been wanting a 5-string p-style bass for years but have never found one I liked enough to purchase. The string spacing was always too wide feeling. Pretty sure this is the answer.

I misread the price. It's advertised twice in the shop at $1,750 (not $750) and $900.

Glad to know my eyes did not get that bad...

The Lace Sensor (no polepieces) is a smart solution to the narrower string spacing of the L5000 ...

It's got some use marks, but from a few feet away you can't tell. Definitely not worth the $1,750.00 he claimed was the actual price. Fortunately he met me between the $750 & $900 he had listed accidentally.

Like my late '80s L-2000, the hardware has a fair bit of oxidation and the frets need minor smoothing and cleaning. I'll probably pull all of it apart for cleaning/polishing, check the electronics, and get the date while it's apart. Should be in almost new condition in about a week.


I will say, I love the string spacing! This is the first 5er I've played that doesn't feel awkward. It'll be the perfect mate to my L-2000.

I didn't find the answer to this, so I will ask, when did the headstock change? From the Sickle to the "regular'? Or were they out at the same time and you had a choice?

It definitely changed. I think it was after Leo passed, so late 1991 or early 1992. BBE was trying to unify things. My L5000 is early 1992 and has the standard gouger headstock.
