Friday Weekly '88-93 G&L L5000 Roundup

BBE Sound, the current owners of G&L. They bought G&L not long after Leo died.
I wasn't sure what the BBE was. So, the company - Sonic Maximizer?? BBE?? Hmm. He died in 1991 and the L5K were made until about 1993?
Yep, that's the same BBE. They made the L5000 until about 1993 give or take. Then they dumped it for less P-bass-style 5ers. As you can tell from the topic of the thread, it wasn't particularly popular. If they were producing it today, however...
I would really love to play one. My Modulus Bassstar has the same neck profile as the L5K. 1-3/4 nut and 2-1/2 heal. While my Modulus is neck thru, it seems (on paper at least) that the narrow spacing would be a great feel for me. My Mod is an extremely early one though so there are no other examples like it. Let the hunt continue!!

She is a 1992 Candy Apple Red. Maple neck/Board.. Needs new strings. Original case. Stunning finish. Neck is way better than I had thought it would be. Tone was terrible, but the strings are really bad. I actually made a comment at practice last night that these were the best sounding flat wound strings that are round wound!!! New strings tonight and give her another try
If it doesn't work out, let me know.
The only concern I have is the output. I am used to 18v active, so this is a bit to get used to. But the neck. Wow.. The neck. I can't even describe the fast neck well enough. Of course you all in here already know that. Mine has the regular headstock which I am assuming is from the later models. The earlier ones had the sickle headstock IIRC???
Do you mean you're used to a hotter output than the G&L? I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone complain about low output from a properly functioning MFD pickup. Or is it hotter than you're used to? Thx.
Not as hot at I am used to. Again, I am used to 18v preamps driving my pickups. Not a complaint, but a difference..
I'm with TomB on this one, my 5000 is as hot as anything I've had be it 9v or 18v. But the real question is---where did you find one so fast? It was just last week you said you'd like to find one, and these don't come up incredibly often.
Popped up in Alabama and i didn't hesitate to buy it. Had my mind made up to want to try one so the second i saw one for less than $1500, i bought it
dude...must've been the local pennysaver if I didn't see it...... 
It was actually listed for about 3 minutes when I bought it.. Really. Made the guys head spin that I bought it like that. No questions asked, just boom..

Yeah, great deal. Also, I don't think that's Candy Apple Red Metallic. Looks like Clear Red to me, because I see wood grain, which would make it a translucent finish.
Again, if you don't like it, I'm first in line to grab. That's a terrific bass in one of my favorite colors.
