Correct!
Many synths will just have A.D.S.R, and with a short attack time - things get punchy/snappy.
Some synths like the Korg R3 etc, will have an additional "punch" parameter that adds some additional thump to each note attack; this helps ANY synth bass tones to be
significantly more defined in a mix.
The Future Impact running through an SPL Transient Designer (with high attack & low sustain setting) sounds phenomenal! But no such device exists in pedal format.
It would be great to have this kind of envelope shaping within the F.I. software/pedal....
