Hey all, I think this got lost in the announcements, any Gap Band-esque patches out there?

These patches were demonstrated last year. Investments were made in lieu of this software release. My frustration is warranted.

Which patches? More classic synth virtual analogue ones that’s been talked about since late last year?

If it’s FM stuff in Jan they hinted at FM and then shared prototype at NAMM and right at end of feb they dropped a video showing FM capabilities …with no firm release date commitment- I really don’t think a month has been a super long wait to have an a free upgrade on an existing product.
I get the impression it’s a small team developing it - it’s not like it’s apple or google throwing dev time and burning the midnight oil at something to hit a deadline. If you buy stuff from smaller companies expectations will be different!

Yeah they mentioned a potential future FM engine shortly after the v4 was released, but definitely never gave any sort of potential timeline. I hadn’t heard much about it again until this year, and still with no concrete timeline (which is wise!).

It was made abundantly clear that the v4 was hardware was created precisely because the v1-3 hardware had been upgraded (via firmware) to its absolute limit. This was done over close to nine years so v1-3 users have in no way been short-changed.

Even without the v4.5 update, v4 is a significant upgrade over v3 in terms of sound quality, build quality and features, so there’s still plenty of value built in. That is what you have actually paid for. I do acknowledge though that some people will have decided to make the leap based on the promise of future expansion, but at the time of the v4 launch, we only gave an outline of what those things could be, not what they were definitely going to be; at that point there was nothing firm.

As Luke said, we only announced what we were actually working on at NAMM where we showed a very early beta version of the FM engine. Again, no promise of a release date was made; we just made users aware that it was deep into development and would likely be ready in the near future.

You say you use those (FM) sounds at all your gigs; may I ask what you have been using to generate them up to this point?

I think many people don’t have first-hand knowledge of just how much work is required for an incredibly small team to put together an update of this magnitude. Finding and fixing a bug means having to test a new version to make sure the fix hasn’t affected anything else. And there are often last-minute tweaks that come up.

On a personal level, I haven’t been able to contribute nearly as much as I ordinarily would due to literal life-and-death health issues and concomitant support logistics: my children’s mother is terminally ill and I’m still in active cancer treatment too.

I do understand your frustration, sorry for that. It shouldn’t be too much longer now.

What do you mean? Do you mean you want to trigger the FI via a keyboard or other MIDI source? If so set the instrument mode to Synth via the global menu. As always, this is explained in the manual.

After all, as bass players we share the unenviable position as the “little toe” of the band. The player that isn’t really noticed until they’re not there. Don’t worry about it. It hasn’t touched a nerve as such. I was just trying to give some perspective on the process and the history of this and previous updates; also that my personal situation has meant other members of the team have had to take on more of the area of work that I would usually do, which has slowed things down. If you read any snippiness, please accept my apologies, there was none intended.

I interpreted the earlier post such that if you buy direct from panda on or after the release day, then those units will come with v4.5 installed. @Andras Szalay would be able to say for definite.

Obviously any units that are already with retailers will (probably) have v4.12 installed.

to be honest with you I'm very excited to try the v4.5, and since the beginning of March every day I check both Panda-Audio and Panda-Midi web sites, but I understand that for a small company like your it takes time to deal with test&trial phase and therefore to solve sw bugs.
I'm a huge fan of the 80'ies and to reply a question from Quatschmacher to an another TB user, to play synths by electric bass I use a Roland G77 bass with a Roland GM70 converter, connected to some synths I own including a Yamaha DX7II:



As you know, old technology that can fail anytime and maybe unrepairable...
...plus many problems like errors in MIDI conversion and that damn latency.
In fact I always play on the second octave of the bass, just like Dave Bronze when he toured with Art Of Noise.



So, at least to me, it will be a dream to leave safely at home both Roland bass and converter plus the DX7, all replaced by one pedal!

Threrefore take your time and thanks in advance to you and your team.

BTW: how about (in the future...) a polyphonic version of the Future Impact?

I would love to be able to play chords, but I bet polyphonic audio to midi is very difficult.

To me would be (more than) enough to have polyphony inside the internal sounds of the Future Impact.

Just like a pedal by an another company.
