Fuzzrocious LunaReclipse

That's most distortion pedals. What distortion does, generally, is add content in the mids and treble.
If you're trying to make your clean and dirt the same volume, this will result in an apparent loss of low end because you're going to have to cut the volume on the dirt (which means cutting everything, bass, mids, and treble) to make it the same volume as your clean (because what dirt pedals do is add to the sound).

We do plenty of mods to our line for customers. If this concerns you, we are glad to add a clean blend.

So I got home tonight and there was a LunaReclipse waiting for me! I thought they were shipping today so was hoping to get mine early next week so imagine my surprise when I walked in to see a package from Fuzzrocous. And on a Friday night too...with a rehearsal scheduled with the band tomorrow. Sometimes things align just right.
Okay so I put the LunaReclipse on my board and started going through all the settings. Sweet baby jeebus, this thing is even better than I hoped! Now, full disclosure, I've spent literally 20 minutes with the pedal just now and am fully aware of the new pedal honeymoon thing. But I've been doing this long enough to know right away whether or not pedals work for me and this one most definitely works for me. As a reminder, here are the settings:
ROTARY POSITIONS
1:00 – 1n914/1n914
2:00 – germanium / germanium
3:00 – 1n4001/1n4001
4:00 – LED/LED
5:00 – 1n914-1n914/1n914
6:00 – germanium – germanium / germanium
7:00 – 1n4001-1n4001/1n4001
8:00 – LED – LED /LED
9:00 – 1n914-1n914/germanium
10:00 – germanium – germanium /LED
11:00 – 1n4001-1n4001/LED
12:00 – clean boost
Right out of the gate, 8:00 is my initial favorite. Plenty of crunch and a huge bottom. The 6:00 germanium was also excellent. But what surprised me the most was the clean boost at 12:00. Maybe its just that I haven't had a quality clean boost before but I've never had much luck with them in the past. But I cranked the volume on the pedal and I can totally see using just the clean boost on this thing for some of the heavier passages in my band. In fact, its got me considering getting another one so I can dedicate one for the clean boost and the other for a dirty tone.
Man, its not often I instantly gel with a pedal but the LunaReclipse is absolutely killer (and it looks cool as hell too!). I'll be jamming it with the band tomorrow but I already know its gonna work just fine. I was playing just now along with a Digitech Sdrum and it sounded glorious. Back tomorrow for a post-rehearsal report. Thanks Ryan, your work is excellent!

No, no Demon yet but I'm a very patient guy and the LunaReclipse will keep me plenty busy in the meantime (not to mention I'll be giving a Darkglass Alpha Omicron a look-see as soon as they are available...man, what a time for us dirt lovers!)

Okay, so spent another half hour with the LunaReclipse. Did I say huge bottom at 8:00? Yeah, 4:00 as well, and 4:00 sounds even dirtier to my ears. I knew coming in that I would gravitate to the LED settings but they are just outstanding. Extremely usable. And let me just gush a bit more about the clean boost. I really cranked it and the clarity is pristine.
The versatility of the LunaReclipse cannot be overstated - such a variety of tones to choose from. And for you finger-style players, don't give too much sway to Patrick Hunter's demo. I love Patrick but his uber strong right-hand pick attack doesn't do all of the settings justice. As a primarily finger-style player, I can tell you the nuance between settings is quite evident. The variety of tones (and ridiculously easy way to switch between them) makes this pedal a dream for dirt lovers like me who don't particularly enjoy knob tweaking. Oh an did I mention the massive bottom in the LED settings? Hard to see how dirt lovers could go wrong with this pedal.
Yeah, I'm gushing...sue me. Like I said earlier, its not often that I instantly love a pedal (last time was the B3K, I think) but I've already attached industrial velcro to the LunaReclipse and I *never* do that on day 1.

I also received my LunaReclipse today. I been playing with it for a couple of hours. I am very impressed too. I am going to withhold my review for a few days just because I prefer to get really familiar with it before making proclamations. (I will be using it at a gig on Wednesday.) The one thing that baffles me a little: I don't get any distortion out of settings 9-11. They all sound like setting 12. (1-8 is pretty fantastic though.) Do these settings need more input gain to get them diodes to clip?

.If you're concerned that there is an issue, please send an email to [email protected] with a video. Those are asymmetrical clipping options, so you need to push a little harder to get some of those to grind. The best way to tell is to put an overdrive in front of the lunaReclipse and click through.
I have no technical knowledge whatsoever, I only go by what my ears tell me. For me, the 9:00 1n914-1n914/germanium setting has a ton of distortion. The 10:00 and 11:00 are more subtle but as Ryan said, when I really dig in, its definitely there. I played through headphones this morning (I was playing through my amp at volume last night) and it was easier for me to hear the distinctions between 10:00 and 11:00 through my headphones.
After a couple of hours with headphones this morning the 8:00 setting is still leading the pack for me. Its more touch sensitive than I initially thought and is really in my sweet spot for distorted tone. It also drives my Sub-n-Up and Bass Clone very well.

This thing is awesome! i havent had much time to play with it, but the "clean" boost does seem to add a pleasant touch of hair ,and when put in front of my Damnation MBD-1 it totally rips. With all the options I can totally see myself ordering more in the future.
Hey Ryan, I've got a couple of other pedals from you (Demon and GS) in 'smaller' enclosures. Is the Luna the same size? Trying to work out if I can fit another pedal on my board, or if I'll have to move something on.

Had a chance to use the LunaReclipse with the band and as I anticipated, the clean boost worked so well driving my SCR-DI (and the bass clone and SubnUp, when engaged) that I had it on for the whole rehearsal. We rehearse in a relatively small studio with two guitarists, drummer and singer and its always loud. The clean boost gave my tone added heft and clarity and will now be always on for my live sound. Absolutely loved it.

I wanted to follow up with my experience with the LunaReclipse. I've used this pedal in a few rehearsals with my originals alternative rock band. Last night I used a light overdrive setting with my fretless bass. It gave the bass an edge and growl that worked well with the song we were doing. I don't miss having separate gain and volume. If you want more clipping you just select a different setting. One thing I really like is that the light gain settings add some great presence without adding much compression. I also don't miss the tone controls. Once again the different clipping mods emphasis different frequencies. Plus I have the Omnicabsim at the end of the pedal chain. I am using it more and more as an always on drive pedal that becomes part of my basic sound for the song. Then I will through distortion or fuzz in after it for a section. I like being able to select the right sound for each song. It really makes a difference in my opinion. In short, it is a fantastic light to medium overdrive. The issues I described above are definitely operator error. Positions 10 and 11 do produce some nice, although very mild, clipping. And position 12 is, indeed, a great clean boost.
