Well I got my neck.
turns out the neck has a twist to it and I never knew that
Really sucks as I had to save up to afford it and still! it needs a clear coated as well
does anyone have any ideas on how I can go about this cost effectively? No
truss rod

So for all that are curious, I bought this black GGi5 at GC. When it arrived I noticed that the truss rod nut was stripped bare to where it is round.
I wasn't sure if this was a dual action TR (in which case you cannot remove the nut) and decided just to return the bass to GC.
Just wanted to let you guys know before someone else decides to buy it. That is a problem that will need addressing.

I am not sure that the problem you are experiencing has been expressed with enough details to be helpful here.
You have a twisted neck, but what neck is it? We know it's without truss rod.
Is it twisted like a ski-jump or "sideways"?
How "bad" is it? Like in terms of relief? Is the situation still evolving and getting worse or is it stable? Can you get away maybe with a replane of the fretboard and a refret?
It’s a b quad 5 neck..
The treble side has relief I forgot what the number was but the answer was to was to refret and plane the board
I can get away with it but
I’m looking for someone to also lacquer the neck
for both to be done it is a lot of money to put into it
I desperately want a B Quad but it was always worries about the piezo system failing that put me off. This story about the neck doesn't help my case. Still, finding a good one would be a dream.
Contact Jerry Dorsch. He's the authority when it comes to molded graphite neck and is great to work with.
it's more a topic for the Modulus thread, but yes, you need a defret/replane/refret. A competent luthier, ideally with a Plek equipment should be able to do it.
(i have done it a month ago and happy with the result, but i'm not in USA so can't recommend anyone)
I just placed an order with Geoff for a GGi-6 lined fretless in Green Velvet to compliment my GGi-5 fretted Rainbow Trout. Life is good.
Just picked up this GGi4 Deep Space Station used from Corner Music. As my 3rd G.Gould bass I had high expectations, but wow - absolutely jaw dropping tone. The Dark Star pickups are astonishing. And of course it's lightweight, fast and sustains for days. I'm at a loss for words how good this is.

Congrats! I just received the new SST model today from The Bass Place. Two unique basses now out in the world! It's also my third G. Gould bass and I could not be happier.

<hint>To those of you who have "unusual" pickup combinations, if you ever feel like it, I'm sure others here would appreciate a short video demonstrating the tones.</hint>
I'll see if I can come up with something that will do it (or them) justice. In addition to the SST, I also have a GGi4 with the JJ combination, and a GGi5 with S and MM.
Just wanted to give a little update on the SST. Sorry for no sound clips yet, but if I'm going to do it I want to make sure I do it right. If you all don't care I can certainly do one with just my phone or iPad's mic.
This bass indeed has a very unique tonal range and I bought it for a few reasons -
1. It replaced my Roscoe LG3005. Roscoe makes an incredible bass and this one was no exception. However, the Roscoe was limited in how I was using it and it became the easiest one to give up. With its angled soapbar pickups it is famous for it's middy growl and going over to the SST gave me a bit of a similar tone...and then some. I had no way of playing or hearing this bass before purchase, so the only thing I could go by was YouTube videos showing the Modulus basses with a similar pickup arrangement.
2. The neck. Everyone here who owns a Gould has it mostly in part because of that amazing carbon fiber neck. I have wood necked basses as well, but I really get spoiled each and every time I play on carbon fiber. I've owned a total of six basses with CF necks - 3 Modulus, and 3 Gould. I sold two of the Modulus basses to put two of the Gould basses into my hands if that is an endorsement worth any value. I like Geoff's necks better by a pretty large margin. They are both wider and with a shallower profile in comparison to how Modulus started making them post-Geoff era and when the inclusion of a truss rod became standard.
3. The color is totally way more bad*** in person
Tone:
With both pickups on full, and EQ flat, it has an extremely tight and focused mid range growl with very controllable highs and a ton of bottom end. I am still running the stock strings which are stainless with a taper core on the B, E, and A strings. Once you start panning towards the neck (sweet spot position) it really starts to change and heads into Stingray territory. It actually starts sounding a bit like my Modulus Flea Bass 5. That tight growl itself never goes away, but it does change to a different flavor as you dial the pickup balance to taste. You also can't confuse the sweet spot position for a standard neck position tone because that simply is not the case. It doesn't do that big ROUND sound like my other GGi5 does with the single coil placed towards the neck, but it's really not going to and that's ok. However, I will say that it is more sensitive to playing position and you can find additional tones just by moving your hands.
If anyone has any questions about it please feel free to ask. I'm only going to make two "mods" to it for now, and that's 1. Swap the blend control wires so that it's not "backwards" to what I'm used to. 2. Replace the knobs just as I did on my other two Gould's, but with a slightly different style than those. Sorry, Geoff, I'm not a fan of the stock EMG knobs even though they are perfectly functional. I like being able to glance down and visually see where they are set and the EMG's just don't do it well enough for me.

Thanks for the feedback, I was really interested to get more feedback on that model as I’m a believe of a sweet spot model. Eventually I also do like better the Gould “updated” neck profile over the Modulus, but it’s really a small preference over 2 awesome neck.
The stock strings are great…you can actually buy them from Gould’s website and I have made them my standard set for my 5er as I really really like them (damn I need to stock them a bit more then)

I'm also a fan of Geoff's strings, notably the hybrid taper-core blends. When I lived in the desert, I specified payment from a friend on all car repairs to be made in Gould string sets. Billing would always reflect increments of full sets, no partials.
