Hi all. Last week I received a very nice GGi5 that I'm really enjoying. The one thing I miss is having an adjustable Midrange, it has the EMG BTS preamp. I'd like to replace the Bass and Treble controls for the stacked B/T and Mid controls of the EMG BQC - has anyone done this? Here's the link to it

it's very easy to do. I ship with the standard BTS partly due to price, and partly due to the fact that some people have difficulties with midrange. You can actually make the bass sound worse with the wrong midrange settings. But you correctly point out the BQC will fit right in. They are available as a factory installed upgrade too.
That's great Geoff, good to know. I'm very used to my midrange control on my Smith, I find a very small adjustment now and then gives me what I need. I've owned basses with a stacked midrange control and yes, it's easy to make things worse with one.

I find the semi parametric mid control to be easy to use. I boost the mids, sweep the frequency until I locate the frequency that sounds bad and then make a small cut. My ggi6 has the mid control. I installed it and it was very easy.

This is exactly how I use a midrange control, to find the most annoying frequency, then cut it. But I guess some will like to boost it too. Different strokes!
I do the same with the semi-PEQ on my D800+ before a a gig to get rid of any annoying 200-400 Hz woofiness or or other harshness. The mid knob on my bass needs the slightest bump one way or the other depending on the song to do what I want, and I can tweak from my bass while playing without twiddling knobs on my amp.
FWIW I played it at a gig last night and after about three or so tunes I had it dialed in and it sounded great. I may just leave it be for a while.
Not in a G.Gould bass, but in the next closest thing: I swapped a BTS for a BQC in my Modulus and it was a direct replacement, dropped right in no problem.

Looks like this is a 6-string built with a 5-string neck, based on the nut width and narrow (16mm) spacing at the bridge. My guess is that the Kahler is one of the few bridges that can be adjusted that narrow?

Yes, I call it a GGi6 Sprint. Same string spacing of the one we made for Andy West.
Note to self: Ask Geoff for a "GGi6 Sprint" when it's finally time to order a G.Gould sixer!

I have an obsession for wood. The musical kind.
Not surprised by that. Andy's pick playing is nothing short of wicked, and I say using a pick on bass is waaaaay tougher than fingers. How he's doubled Morse's DD lines, is jaw-dropping. I met him at Winter NAMM, back in '09, and asked him how he's so fluid in his style of playing. He answered, "Hehe, LOTS of practice."
I have found that my GGI5 is the ONLY modern active bass I don't need a midrange. Typically I do if I play the burpy funky Jaco style on the bridge pickup (cut highs bump low mid around 250) but the EMG CSX when treble rolled off sounds more like a tone roll off on a F Jazz bass. In other words it more of a low pass filter style that seems to broadly boost the low mids while dulling the highs. It's fatter sounding to my ears soloed than the regular EMG DC40 that I have in my Modulus. That one requires a bit of low mid bump when soloed. My other Roscoes and Elricks require the low mid bump as well from bridge pickup when soloed. I guess it's the EMG CSX and how it interacts with the BTS and the Gould bass. It's wizardry. Not sure if that's what Geoff had in mind but that's my take. It's refreshing to not have to use additional EQ. Just roll back the treble and solo the bridge. Easy Peasy
Job well done this morning with my GGi4 and my old faithful Eden Navigator.
Quick question, it's about pickup height. Specifically the EMGJ's that are in the GGI5. I noticed the nekc soap bar lower than the bridge. I know this is kinda standard with trad pj pickups but with EMG's they can be even right? I know it's a personal thing and some people try lowering or raising one for preference I was just curious what most of yours look like.

It's totally a matter of taste. Height by itself is meaningless. The neck pickup is in a position of higher natural volume due to string travel. I prefer to not have it too close to the string to maximize sweetness. Then I raise the bridge pickup to where it's roughly on the same volume level, but of course has the higher frequency overtones.
