G&L Club Part 2

I've been playing flats on my basses because I don't like the zinginess of rounds, but I put a set of DR Lo-Rider Nickels on my L2000 Tribute and it sounds great! Nice deep tone with none of the scoopiness and zing I'm used to with other rounds.

Nickel Lo-Riders get it done on just about any bass. I've tried many different strings and they remain near the top of my list. Price isn't bad and they last fairly long too.

It was purchased new by the original owner in Canada back in (I believe)2001 for his son to use as a learning instrument. It appears that the son didn't take to playing bass, so it sat in a closet for years before they listed it on CL. By some strange reason, I hit it while doing a Google search for something else, and I made them an offer. I have owned several G&Ls, and this is probably my all-time favorite.

I pulled the preamp in my L2000 Tribute and installed individual outer coil/parallel/inner coil switches, and love the added versatility! I never liked the series mode much, and can get a similar tone with a little EQ'ing. Now I can solo each coil, pair the inner, outer, north, or south coils, and I can have three coils going. I've found that keeping the neck pickup in parallel, and matching it with either of the bridge coils cleans up the sound a bit while keeping it hum free. All in all dumping the preamp was the best thing I could have done! Now I'm seriously considering installing an Audere preamp and figuring out what to do with the extra switch hole!
