I think I am gonna need a number. Just picked up a L-2500 Trib last week and wasn't sure how I was going to like it, needed a little time with it to get used to it. BUT....the great thing is that I played it at the shows this weekend and WOW....it sounds amazing. Really get a nice grind out of it and the bass is set up perfectly for me.

Do many people use flats with their L-2000s? I just got mine on Saturday (2/12/11) and it was strung with some flatwounds. I had never played flats before but I really like it. I dont know what these are, but they have a neon green silk on the bridge end of the strings and nothing on the headstock end. I'll probably switch to Chromes.

Personally, no...to me, it completely defeats the snarly pit bull nature of these.
But, I think that about almost all basses.
I do keep flats on 2 of my 20 (rolleyes) basses:
Reverend 5L and 1980 mahogany/ebony L1000.
The 5L cause it just plain suits it, and the L1000 because I have two of that, one with flats, one with rounds.

If I had two of the same basses, I'd put flats on one and Rounds on the other also. I do have a Fender Aerodyne that I put flats on half the time just to get the old skool thump. Then I get board with that sound and I go with the rounds. My SB 2 has rounds and I don't see myself going flat there. No L2K in the stable. Yet.
I have flats on my L-2500. It still has plenty of growl. Love the way it sounds.

I have flats on virtually all my basses, especially Fenders, but on my L-2000 I went back to nickle rounds (DR Lo-Riders) after trying several different flats because rounds seemed to better match it's natural tone than flats.
It's not that I disliked flats on the L2k, I just felt rounds suited it better.

I really like that color combo of natural finish with rosewood fretboard on this bass. Simple but classic.
yeah, Lo-Riders and Dean Markley SR2000s are the 2 roundwounds I want to try. I hear they both have considerably higher tension.
#353 underwent a change
Neck pocket cleanup (why such a mess in a USA model) & neck readjustment and bone nut resulted in a very fine sustain. Galli Saturn strings render the finest growl. My hate/love relatuionship with this lady turned to love everlasting...
I just bought a JB-2. I Love the feel of the neck! I am having trouble with the sound...the pickups are very dark sounding up the neck & B# is more like a thud instead of a note at the 13th fret. Is this normal to have dead spots in the pickups? Will Barts drop in the spaces without mods? Any help would be appreciated. I have thought about tearing out the pots ...I could use some direction...Much appreciated
Sounds to me like it needs new strings. You shouldn't need to change the pickups or the pots. If you think G&L pups are dark (!), Barts won't float your boat at all.
I was at Guitar Center this Saturday. For two and a half hours I sat there and played a 1981 L-2000. My god, it is the best thing I have ever played. I'd try another bass, but I'd feel like something was missing and just went back to it.

Just got my second G&L bass. This time a Tribute SB-2 with tone mod/pup select switch. Bought it of TB member SnappyTom. Can't believe how aggressive these passive pups are!
