G&L Club Part 3

Another way to test what that sounded like would be to have the pickup above the strings upside down with two blocks holding it the desired distance away from the strings and then the same could be done with the bridge pu of course this would be awkward to test without ace bandages and a limited picking area but it would somewhat answer your curiosity.
Or the Leo pickup test bed could be several 2x4's
And both of these methods could be done using your L-2500 hardware and pickups.
Or maybe!! Someone has already done this and made clips on this or another forum.

The bridge has more beef than I thought it would and the neck isn't as twangy as I thought it would be. Both on is full and clear, both on in super-series mode is kind of redonkulous as far as low end it kinda has a big round Gibson sound and adding the treble boost clarifies things. I just have one more chip to try with the preamp I've tried 2of3 and then I'll know which chip to use. Also the DIY paintjob was thick and plastic like so I stripped it and my brother-in-law works at an antique furniture restoration shop so he put three coats of satin nitro which I think opened it up from where it was.

*edit* I feel like the kid in school that thinks he was waved to when it was someone behind him only I rambled for two posts before seeing the the pics posted as I was typing FML! I feel like a walked into the clubhouse and mouthfarted. (Sorry)

I've wondered where that one wound up!
I tried quite a few things in an attempt to fine tune that ones sound.
I could never quite overcome the midrange tone of the original pickup. maybe if I had gone a bit more toward the neck with the additional P/U.
Glad to hear that it had a good home with you or a while! :)

Well, this bass body was "re-finned" with a greenburst finish, but unfortunately it was a spray can type. The entire body was "orange peel" and somewhat tacky (in more ways than one).

My wife got tired of hearing how much I was disappointed by the finish, and seeing I had removed all the parts, she assumed it was going on the burn pile. She usually checks with me for stuff like this but I was whining about it quite a lot, so......that's what I get. :bawl:

Anyway, I was planning on removing the finish to see what the wood looked like and if it could take a clear finish since the existing paint was a disaster. So, I did exactly that, using the stuff in this photo to remove it. Once the finish was off, I applied some walnut stain to try and get a "hog" look which I love, but I do not have a hog G&L. Then I applied a few coats of vintage tint clear then a few of clear and buffed out.

The best way to load pics is to use a pic host like Photobucket. Upload your pics there, and then use the photo url button to link to them. You can put up significantly larger photos that way rather than loading them through TB directly.

Played a used ASAT at GC today and was very impressed except for the E string being way too loud (not sure why). The solo pickup tones are very nice. My one typical gripe about G&Ls was not an issue this time... the big frets. The ASAT seemed to have small frets. Is this normal? It felt so much better than most G&Ls I have tried because of this and sounded as good.

I was also wondering if anyone has come up with a pick guard design for the 1500 or 1505... with one pickup like that it looks perfect for a '72 Thinline P Bass type guard. If I got a G&L, I would probably try to make a guard for it (heresy I know).

Hi,just to let everyone know,especially Bad Jazz. This club is very alive and well. We are up to club member # 446,and quickly aproaching 900 posts.
