G&L Club Part 5

Here is my pair of G&Ls. The Tribute L-2000 carved top arrived yesterday, and it played great right out of the box. The versatility and quality are absolutely amazing at this price.
The LB-100 was purchased here from Beedubyah in Chicago. It has a great soulful Precision bass sound and feel.

Great stuff.

Interesting question. Someone might be clever enough to figure out how to wire up the existing switch for bass boost/series/parallel, but it might be easiest to swap out the volume or treble pot with a push/pull pot that can switch the bass boost capacitor in or out.

That would give you (series or bass boost, depending on push/pull pot setting)/single/parallel.

Maybe someone can comment if there's sufficient clearance inside an L1000 control cavity for a push/pull pot.

I thought about doing this with my L2500, but there's not much room in there with the preamp that you don't have to worry about in the L1000.

Right away (Playing through my GK 1001 RBII with all EQ set at 12 o'clock and one NEO 1X15 cab) the guys in the band were impressed.

By the end of the 1st set I was floored, so versatile, so clean. I had thought about the settings I'd use on one song before I even had the Bass and they worked PERFECTLY.

It was a little difficult to switch the settings on the Bass while playing, but I usually use one setting per song so I just need to set in advance and count off and play.

It's very responsive to right hand technique and the action was so fast & low I sometimes choked playing… it was like "Bass shouldn't be this easy to play"

LOL !!

All in all the Bass is a keeper.
Part of the reason I wanted to get a G&L is my other Bass has a 35" scale and the neck is quite wide. I was finding my left hand felt fatigued after about an hour and a half and then for the next day or so it would be sore enough to have me popping ibuprofen all day. In contrast, after last night (3 hours of playing) it feels like I didn't even have a gig, effortless playing and no after burn ??? I'm sold 100%.:hyper::hyper:;):hyper::hyper:

Indeed, the L2500 is an amazing instrument.
I'll have to try the M2500 now.

I hear the M2500 Tribute line is ~ 3-4 weeks out from being buyable.
I'm probably down for one of those, given they stay "price friendly"

Original case? No.

All original parts? No. A poorly installed brass nut (cut too deep on all strings)and no headstock logo (aftermarket neck? I was the second owner).

Good condition? No. Cracks and dents are EVERYWHERE on the body, and there's some finish cracking on the back of the headstock. Desperately needs a refretting too.

Not looking good, value-wise.

But do I still love it? Of course. :)

Here's my L2000 Tribute after I added a Dimarzio Will Power pickup:

I'm calling her the "EB-2000".

Each pickup has its own parallel/single-coil/series switch (the MFD's go to inner singles), the small volume is for the WP pup, the MFD volume is a push/pull that toggles between the stock series setting and "single-coil with bass boost".

:eek: I dig it! How does it sound? Do you like what the Will Power gives you in addition to the MFDs? What's your favorite combo?

Based on my SB-3 I bet I'd like the Will Power with the neck MFD in parallel or single coil, passive, bass full up, some treble rolled off. My SB3 fave is Will Power full up, Will Power cap engaged, MFD P full up, J full off, tone full up (the cap engaged gives just the right tone roll off for me).

I think it sounds really good! The only thing that's a bit of a bummer is that the WP and the MFD's have different resistance and so I have to drop the MFD bass all the way when combining WP and MFD. What's a "Will Power cap"?

With the WP in series and the MFD's in single-coil mode I get round fullness with crisp treble. The WP with the single bridge MFD is nice old-school stuff. The WP sounds really good all by itself.

Do you know of a way of balancing the pickup resistances so that I don't have to drop the MFD bass?

It looks like my pickup systems are out of phase. All I need to do is reverse the ground and hot wires on the Will Power series/single/parallel switch and I should get full power from all pickups! Thunder city!!
