Oh, hang your head in shame; basing pickup size on a 3 inch picture of a 4 foot long bass.
They are different lengths. Indeed, the coil pair fits in the standard USA JB-2 covers.

Did you physically measure an actual specimen? Your verbiage is assertive, whereas mine contained a deliberate air of subjectivity. How many JB-2's do you own? I have a pair of Americans, and a Trib; love the type, so I thus question your assertion, and qualification to make it.

On an entirely different topic..
I have seen several posts and indeed threads maligning G&L customer service so i thought i would share my recent (positive) experience
I recently took advantage of great pricing and purchased online a Tribute JB-2 with maple neck, and checking it out noticed an intonation screw and spring was missing... Rather than deal with the online vendor, I tried locally at hardware stores and found a springless bandaid solution and so went to the G&L website, hoping to simply purchase the parts i needed.
While i could have purchased and entire bridge-worth of saddles spring and screws, I sent a note to the parts/service department explaining my predicament and asking if i could purchase just the few bits i needed...
the following business day i received an email asking for my shipping address, and the parts were sent out (free) the same day.
Now, given this was NAMM week and I have not even registered the bass as yet with G&L, I would like to say that this is GREAT customer service...

I'm digging the concept of the new MJ-4 - I hope they release a Trib version at some point (it would save me some money 
). I have to try out an M-2000 someday as well.
But in the meantime I broke out the power tools and made some sawdust and plastic bits a couple of weekends ago (my first time doing this stuff myself).
It's a used black Trib SB2 where I added a second MFD split-coil towards the neck. Controls are stacked master-vol/j-pickup-vol, split-coil pickup selector (neck/both/middle), and a tone. I like the tones and although I butchered the pickguard a bit black-on-black hides a lot of mistakes.
It makes a fun pair with with my other modified red Trib SB2.

I think another good frankenGaL would be adding a split coil MFD to a JB-2 instead of the neck pup, then hiding the hole mess with a pickguard would give a great setup too... T/V/V and a real useable solo bridge pup!
