Is the problem a break, or a string height adjustment, or something else?

Previously I filed the nut to accomodate bigger string gauges for BEAD tuning. I returned to standard tuning and I had a buzz between my fretting hand and the nut on frets 6 to 8 on the E string.

I found a workaround thanks to this post. A cutter, a file, a strip of paper soaked in cyanoacrylate glue, a bit of meticulousness and here it goes again, as good as new.

I filed a nut too deep in about 1976 (I was 16 then). I filled the void with standard household epoxy and re-filed to shape. 45 years later and still perfect! Never heard any difference in tone for that one string.

Big Chonks refers to the 19mm spaced 5-stringers in the works, which judging by this Instagram post has more changed than just the wider bridge:

I am sure this question has been asked before. I have searched but cannot find it. So sorry if there is repetition happening here

I played a CLF L1000 today. It was very lovely. But you knew that. I compared it to my MM5 and liked the noise the L1000 made more. I am wondering about plumbing G&L hardware into the MM. I know I would need a new scratchplate and a date with a router to put the pickup in the "right" place and stuff, and I am ok with that. Has anyone done this? If I buy an L Series Five String pickup and find a wiring diagram for the controls am I good to go? I am not buying things as I type, but I am seriously considering it and would welcome any input.

The classic trick to fill an over-cut nut is a mixture of cyanoacrylate and baking soda.

I know, I read that but I don't have baking soda. Paper seems to work just fine and requires little to no filing.

Just watching "Wicked In Concert" as part of the PBS fundraiser [Go PBS!] and was interested to see the bassist for that show playing upright and a natural/rosewood G&L L-2000.

You'll need a G&L bridge too, its part of the recipe. Check out the bassesbyleo forum. I hear you. I love my SR5 but I dig the G&L tone.

Interesting. . . What do the gold L2000, Tom Hamilton ASAT and my MJ4 all have in common? Metalflake finishes. I wonder if pine/flake is a regular pairing for some reason.

Anyone else catch what looks like half of a 5 string P MFD on Instagram? Scroll through the photos to see it.



Noting that I could be wrong given the MFD guitars that use split coil. That said I do not know why they would be developing another guitar one so I am hoping this is a bass pickup.

The L2000 has landed!!! I have now imported two G&L basses from the USA to the UK (sorry about that!)

I'm having a lot of fun finding the sounds in the L2000. To me, it sounds like a filthy Ken Smith. Which is the perfect accompaniment to my SB1.
