Great list and dealer recommendation, Greg at Rocket is the best!

I'll add that the CLF 4 string basses only have one neck available - 1-5/8" wide and 9.5" radius, it's a special neck that's made for the CLF 4 strings. Very comfortable, but I tried to order a different neck on a Custom Shop CLF model and they wouldn't do it.

Does anybody remember a special/small run of JB-2s in an "exotic" body wood with black hardware? I'm thinking walnut (maybe "east indian walnut" aka monkeypod). I can't find any reference to it online. Idle curiosity really - I think I saw an ad for a used one forsale many moons ago and am just suprised I couldn't find any online references, it's not in the list of various G&L special/limited runs I've found.

Maybe it was just one of the many prototype G&Ls that have made it into the wild like prototype semihollow JB2 I had for a while (thanks FunkyC!). Too bad G&L didn't keep up their page of the various prototypes they've made over the years, I always enjoyed looking at what that were trying out and had tried out in the past.

Never saw that, or the semihollow jb2. (Which sounds even more interesting).
Anyone have pics?

Have you tried bassesbyleo.com/forum? Some of the folks there have knowledge of a lot of the older and more unusual instruments that G&L has produced.

I recall the special edition run, but cannot remember the series name. I also do not remember seeing a JB2, but recall seeing an L2500 sold in classifieds with the same setup (
SOLD - Stunning and unique Walnut G&L L-2500 GandL L2500).

IIRC they were experimenting with semihollow bodies on more than just the ASAT. I seem to remember at least one L-2000 and L-2500 with semihollow/f-hole bodies as well. The page said that when G&L was done with the prototypes they went ahead and sold them.

This semihollow JB2 was fullerton red and I couldn't hear any difference between it and a solid body JB2. But it did look very cool.

That's interesting to see the monkeypod L2500 with black hardware. That's more like what I remember of the JB2 I saw. I had, for a very short time, one of the newer monkeypod L2Ks that came through Rocketmusic - those came with chrome hardware.

I guess it just goes to show that G&L has done some interesting stuff over the years and you never know what you are going to come across. I think I'll go fire up the wayback machine (archive.org) and see what I can find.

Well I found the old G&L prototypes pages on the wayback machine. Looks like it existed from ~ 2013 through sometime in 2016. I didn't find the east indian walnut JB2s or the semihollow JB2 but it did have these:

There were also roasted necks, painted necks, an L1K prototype, and some other things. Nowdays it would all end up on facebook or instagram but that's where it was back then.
