Great MJ-4 Fit4pain! I wish I could try one... Is it a 30th anniversary? Because my Sb-2 is one of them. I bought it last friday...

Mine is not a 30th anniversary addition. I ordered it in the pearl white back in Nov. After spending all day playing it I am loving it more than I could have imagined. The #12 neck and stainless frets are amazing. I was not so sure I made a good choice with the frets but turns out it my be the best $300 up grade I did on the order. The true test will come next week when I play it live with the band.

Hey guys, I would like to add my entry into the club. A while ago I picked up a red 1996 L2500 (the body said 96, I couldn't read the date on the neck?). Reading A LOT of these threads and doing some research, I found it is a Custom, with an alder body, ash top (with the nice natural binding around the body) and 3 piece maple neck. It needed cleaning but it is in, I would say 9.5 out of 10 shape. Yep, it is a bit on the heavy side, but I only play it on a few songs, so it's not so bad. It is very, very well balanced though. I am amazed at all of the tonal possibilities with this one and it really brings......the THUNDER!

My frettless is also 97 vintage same neck plate and 4/1 head stock. I've had the activities removed for full coil tapping.

That is a sweet looking bass! I have a very similar J that is trans red over flamed maple, with natural mask body binding. I love that look!

I took my SB-2 to a jazz open jam on Sunday. La Bella Deep Talkin' Tapewounds + the Tone rolled off about halfway = perfect jazz upright bass-like tone. LOVE. IT!

G&L aficionados!!

im lookin into getting my first BRAND NEW bass ever!! Im lookin to G&L as these instruments seem to have some kickass features that are growing on me, and the LB100 is the bass im lookin into.

got a local dealer that will help me out with ordering, but he sells the guitars and doesnt stock any basses. im HOPING to be able to try out some L2000s at one of the other stores, but NO ONE has any LB100s around here.

My question to you all, is mainly about the neck profiles. Lookin at the G&L website, im guessing the #5 is more like a standard P, the #6 like a standard J. Moving the "Modern" necks, the only differenece appears to be radius. Clearly they are a bit on the flatter side with the jump from 7.5 to 12".

The one neck that i am truly intrigued by, is the #12. The Medium Modern. I am definitely a fan of a jazz neck profile (two P basses with Jazz necks currently). But i also REALLY love my Ric, which has more of a D and a 1 11/16" nut, which is quite close to 1 5/8"

Anyone have this neck and dig it? What would you compare it too? My guess is that most of the L2000s have the #8 if they are ordered for stock on the showroom floor.

The #8 necks seem to be the most popular but over the years, I've come to really like the #5. I like the radius of it.

I have two custom order G&L's, both with the #12 neck. The closest comparison would be a modern P bass with a slighly flatter fretboard. Personally, I love it. I am okay with a Jazz neck, but I find them a bit cramped at times. Also, I prefer the flatter board. I really don't care for a 7.5 radius unless it's on a really wide neck where it isn't as noticeable.

The #5 neck is probably mostly like some of the AV P basses. The #12 is the same width as the standard american and mexican P bass, with a flatter board. If you like a jazz neck you probably want the #8.

The stock L2000 neck is #12 per the G&L website.

Looks like the #12 is the standard for the LB100, and it seems to make most people happy. Kind of a middle ground between everything. This would be the build:

Vintage White on Alder, #12 Quartersawn and Ebony with dots and Vintage Tint Gloss, (or maybe Vintage Tint Stain...). Tort Pickguard. I may end up having a custom pick guard made by a friend of mine, but id like to see how this classic combo would look with all the G&L goodness...
