G&L Club Part 7

That's sad, but I'd bet it's true. It's the way things are these days...pay more money, get less (and worse) service. The desires of the consumers are ignored completely and are forced to bend to the will of corporate greed. OK, off my soapbox now. :hyper::drool:

Given that they already have your money on the front, I can see how the rationale becomes apathy.

I worked about 75% of my time between 2003-2013 in call centers. It was...fun.

SB-1 for Saturday. Sheet music here, good luck to all with gigs

Some deliveries are set up to not be able to divert, you can't change and have it held at an office, it has to be delivered to the address with signature. I've had basses delivered and same issue, I couldn't change anything about the delivery.
I had to have someone else be at the house because I couldn't be there. It's a bummer
Next time have it delivered to your, or a spouse, S.O. Friend etc's business address.

I've been looking at a bass with an Okoume body. What's every one's experience so far? Soft but good sounding is what I've read. Is this fairly accurate?
It's listed as a hardwood in the wood database (see link below). I thought I had a bass with an okoume body, but it turns out it's nyatoh, another new tonewood that companies are using. I also have a bass made of meranti. I don't recommend that wood. Some say it's a type of mahogany, but my research says it's not. We're in for a lot of new tonewood experimenting by companies as they deal with woods being protected and they try to keep costs down. Here's that link about okoume:

I just posted a picture of my SB-1 a few posts back, it has an Okoume body and Old School Tobacco Sunburst. I like it a lot, it has a nice tone and seems very resonant. The wood looks nice. The wood being softer hasn't been an issue so far. If you like the bass you're looking at, I say go for it. Some more pics of my Okoume SB-1 you can see the wood better. Don't dent my Okoume, bro !! LOL

The okoume is nice, no doubt about that. The maple fingerboard with the black blocks are what immediately caught my eye, though. Either way, great looking bass.

My preferred G&L dealer is 20 minutes away so I'm covered on that front. For other purchases, I just spend the money to get a mailbox at a UPS store. Had way too many issues with porch pirates and I'm not gonna risk an expensive instrument or other purchase. Before that I had them shipped to my work.

G&L Factory uses Fedex, so if you buy one direct or have warranty work, you could try to ask for UPS not sure. They won't leave it outside either, someone has to accept and sign. It's not going to be on the porch. Sent to work or somewhere like that is a good idea, if you know you can't be home or have someone else there

That's for your safety as much as G&L covering their butts. If you sign for it, you can note any damage you see. If they just leave it there, the driver can say it was fine when he left it so either you damaged it or someone else did after he dropped it off. Truly, it's a pain for the customer, but I always require a signature when I ship a bass or guitar, and one time it saved my butt and the customer's.

Teaser photo of my incoming G&L bass. More info and photos to come at the end of next week when I'll have the bass in my hands. But for now……

Now I can follow up on my teaser post……my L2K has arrived!

I'm loving the bass! The order for this bass started before G&L cut back on their option list for Build To Order basses. Perhaps my order was the reason that they made these cutbacks! LOL. It's a highly optioned bass, especially the neck options, that took forever for G&L to build correctly. Thank God for Greg at Rocket Music!! Greg was awesome throughout the process and helped smooth out the bumps along the way. This new bass, if ordered again, would now only be built by the Custom Shop at G&L.

If you look at the spec sheet, the nut width is incorrect. The actual nut width is 1-1/2". The spec sheet reads 1-5/8" but that's wrong. I won't get into how that happened because it's a looonnnnggg story. Memo at G&L is in the process of correcting the spec sheet. I've posted it to show the rest of the options on this bass.

Enough words…..on with the pictures….

Yes! A reverse headstock. The reverse headstock option created a domino effect on this build that was almost unbelievable. But I finally got the bass after it was built 2 different times by G&L. They missed the reverse headstock option on round 1. On round 2, they built the bass with the standard 1-5/8" nut width (and that's why the spec sheet is wrong). G&L finally got it right by round 3.

Also, the bass weight in at 9.1lbs. Definitely not a boat anchor and feels great.

Thank you!

I also was wondering what the back of this build would look like. It's black….and I like it! Maybe the quilted maple top over the ash body causes G&L to make the back a solid color? Who knows……it's G&L!

Every G&L burst I've had--even the Tributes--was solid black on the back except a honeyburst Tribute M2000 I had a few years ago. Since the honeyburst didn't fade to black on the outer edge, I assume that's why it didn't. It makes sense. A solid black back has to be simpler to finish, and simple means less expense. And the black back looks great.

I've had a Tribute that was cherryburst, and the whole back was transparent red. Then I've had US cherryburst and 3TS that each had burst on the back.

So, it's G&L, just roll the dice…
