Seeing that custom shop Fallout with HSC has me wondering… anyone call G&L to see if they know of a hard case that fits the Fallout? Clearly G&G makes them. Maybe they only make it for CS Fallouts, but I am wondering if it is available if you know what to buy.

They should be willing to sell the custom shop Fallout case separately, although it wouldn't be cheap. I'd ping 'em and give it a try, or ask a G & L dealer if he can score one.

Late 84-early 85. The second gen SB-1 had the Schaller pickup, single ply shiny guard and chrome knobs for about a year. Then they introduced the mfd split along with the crinkle coat metal guard and radio knobs

I think the SB-2 got contours and became the Lynx in 84-85. Then they changed to the PJ SB-2 version around 87.

They pop up on Reverb from time to time but yeah more rare than the version I have. I don't know about you guys but I would prefer a second gen with the mfd. This pickup is unbelievable. Such a beast.

The Schaller model SB-1 is like the L5500 with EMGs. They are definitely cool and rare but it's sort of an un-G&L. Not sure I would prefer a 5500 over a 2500.

Anyways I almost snagged that SB-1 but I don't really dig sunburst. It's a good deal if there are no issues with it.

I am interested in making one of my basses lighter. It is a G&L L2000 from the early 2000s.

Would any of you know if these will drop right in, is the hole the right size? Also, do you know how much weight I will save by doing this?

I was thinking the same thing about my L-2000. I have a set of Hipshot Ultralite tuners lying around so I took off one of the G&L tuners and weighed it side-by-side with a Hipshot tuner. I can't remember the exact number but the difference was very small, not enough to justify the change. The G&L tuners are actually very light, as tuners go.

Agreed! I owned a 55-02 for a while and was very impressed with not just the wide range of tonal options (the mid frequency switch in the control cavity was a "hidden" bonus feature), but also how well that range worked. That bass just sounded great.

Of course, so do the Lxxxx series basses!

Probably, I have an SB-1/2 MFD in a franken P, squire body & 3rd party Pickguard, and it fit fine.

I dropped an MFD split-coil pickup into my Tribute LB-100. It began as just a quick experiment to see how it sounded. I pulled the split-coil out of my SB-2, intending to put it right back. I never took the MFD back out of the LB-100. I just bought a new one and dropped it into my SB-2. Now I have a poor man's SB-1.

It was a slightly tight fit--emphasis on 'slightly.' I got a file and filed on the pickguard maybe two minutes and it dropped right in. The cut you see on my pickguard is because I have an active 2-band concentric EQ in that bass, which was in there before I put the MFD in. (I'm not really crazy about the Cort Alnico pickups.) That cut makes accessing the battery beneath the volume control easier. Otherwise it would not be necessary to do that.

That's cool, so you have an active MFD? My standard SB-1 has a hot, strong signal passive, it must be a beast active. Or maybe it tames it down?
