Indeed, though I am loath to spend the $$ since I remember a recent time when G&L would share the relevant info for free. Maybe someday.

You can try emailing G&L and asking about your bass, with the serial #.
If you can get a response, they'll let you know when it was built, wood type etc.
Only thing is it's really hard to get a response form G&L nowadays.

There are those of us who see that as a win.

The wood colored headstock matches nothing.
Obviously personal preference, but it surprises me people want an unmatched bass.
It looks out of place, but I don't have to play it so it's all good!

Bagged this gal off the GC Used site in October. I'd been watching for months and jumped when the price was dramatically slashed. Finish has grown on me, and she elicits lots of positive reactions from audiences and fellow musicians. Appears to be quartersawn neck so between that and the finish I'm guessing custom build. I wonder if anyone out there might know the backstory.

DING DING DING WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER! That's her. What's interesting is that when the bass came to me it was wearing a tortoiseshell pickguard that, frankly, was hideous against the blue metal flake. The 3-ply white makes much better visual sense; cleaner all around. I expect it will pop much better on a dark stage. I do believe I'll be treating her to a X-mas makeover to return her to spec.

Yep. That's what I'm saying. And at $500 off? Done. Action was a mess when it arrived, but a bit of care and letting it settle more than did the trick.

By curiosity, did you take your purchasing decision on information other than GC's very poor description and sub-standard photos for the body?

It seems to me, and here I could be mistaken, that I previously had seen the bass on Music Go Round, and maybe had seen clearer images and a fuller description. But really what tipped it was GC's 30-day return policy. I figured it was worth a try even if I ended up having to eat their cheap shipping fees.

One can see it's not an original G&L fingerboard because the bottom is curved instead of straight... (>>>>>> EDITED 3 posts later...)

The JB does have a curved fretboard heel. They're built more to be more Fenderish. Just look at the one @mindwell just got.

The one above with the matching headstock advertised by TY Music Center is proposed at $1,400.
Not a big difference from yours, though it's not an original G&L fingerboard.

It seems the pickguard rule that works well is : dark on light, light on dark! With a tort exception.

I'm doing ok buddy, thanks for asking. I get that, Steve will make sure it is a killer bass, and they should serve you well, very versatile bass. Very cool on shooting the video, and writing music for the food network. Hope it fits just what you need, I love seeing the M being used. Alas, won't be going to NAMM proper this year, the knee and hip just wouldn't handle all the walking. But hopefully I'll get to some off site events, and catch you somewhere!

So, is the second one a 5'er also? What tuneing you doing on that?

I just got the bass and it's truly the best 34" B string I have ever played. The profile is a similar to Sandberg. I truly love the M-2500 and I plan on making it a bit more popular.

I brought in the house just as Steve called and I didn't the unboxing and played it with him on the phone. I was like wow

The tunings is I use is standards, half step down and half step with a drop C# on the E.
(I like that feel in the E, before I get some comments on that last one ).

So I'm not ordering another one…On the contrary. I'm ordering 2 more lol.

I have a signature Lull of course I love for fusion and modern theater. These will be my new workhouses.

All three will have the following.

Ash/ Ebony
12 Radius
No fretboard dots
Frost finishes
Black painted headstocks
Quatersawn neck

I'm moving forward as an artist with them.

Are these Custom Shop or just BTO with an extra level of service for an artist? Or is there really a difference…?
