G&L Club Part 7

On a different note… You all just had to talk about Kiloton 5s and JB5s the same week I got rid of my JB5 and Kilo 5. Not enough to make me regret getting rid of them*, but the timing had me questioning myself.

*happy with what I replaced them with and still have my US L2500, Tribute L2500, L5000, and Tribute Fallout Bass

Would be interested in reading your thoughts comparing it and your Kiloton. (With the 1500 in passive mode).

I would like to hear about that as well.
I wouldn't mind a Kiloton with a M series preamp installed, but still with the switch.

G&L should be able to build that easily enough. More control over those mids.

I did check and it goes form normal BTO to custom shop at that point. That's a 6 month minimum.

That seems needlessly complicated not to mention far more costly.

I mean I get it, they are running a business and it's not a sku item.

I will say when it gets to that point. My curiosity and interest diminishes greatly

I love my Kilo V, but admittedly I do massage the tone down the line with either a pre pedal live or in the box when tracking. It has such a distinct midrange voice, one of the few basses I've owned where I go straight to scooping some mids, boosting highs and lows a smidge.

I bought the new to me JB5 as a "back up" fiver to my Kilo V which I'm so enamored with. But…famous last words. Did my first gig with it last night and I love it. It has a series push/pull switch mod and man, I can see THAT being my go to bass for a while. Either way, Kilo w flats, JB5 w rounds, I can cover a lot of ground w just these two beasts. But you're covered too w your quiver, big time

I get it too but that doesn't mean I support that decision when the cost of a CS build is so much higher than a build to order. G&L makes a great product but they've always been a little on the quirky side. But then many of us have loved women like that too.

I liked pairing mine with a Master Effects Manta Ray. Did not turn it into a Stingray sound, but was voiced for how I wanted to EQ the Kilo.

The Xotic RC gets me where I wanna go with the Kiloton. I use it on all my basses (all passive) anyway, usually Gain boost for ooomph and maybe a teeny EQ boost. The Kilo gets more EQ boost and less Gain boost than the others - the ooomph is baked in!

Hey, you all seem like the right people to ask about this.

I really would like to get my hand on some CLF bass knobs. For reference, I mean this sort, the wider one with the debossed indicator and straight knurling. It seems like G&L used to sell these knobs, but they don't seem like they're coming back in stock. I sent an email to G&L asking if that would ever change, but I never got a reply.
Does there happen to be a really good copycat design that is available?
*Or does anyone have any lying around that they could part with for some $$?

Just ordered a Ash/Ebony Kiloton 5
