Congrats nice bass, wow! I love it! I jad stalked a bass similar to that on Reverb a few years back but I don't think it had the neck painted like that. Wish I clould have bought it. Was that bass actually made in Japan or in Fullerton for the Japanese market?

Per the build sheet, it is a Fullerton Deluxe (built in the US) specifically for the Japanese market.

Question for the group - What amps are you running? Have you had some you particularly liked over others? My L2K is my go-to bass right now, but regardless of which bass I use, I can't seem to get a "clean" sound from my Fender Rumble Stage 800, regardless of the amp model I choose. Guessing this is me just not being happy with the Rumble sound at this point. Doubt it's a speaker issue with the Stage 800, as I get similar sound quality from by Rumble Studio 40 (practice amp). I've run direct to our PA through an Electro-Harmonix Bass Battalion pre-amp and seem to get a cleaner sound.

What's everyone's favorite? Do the G&Ls just drive amps too hard?

My main amp is a Trickfish Bullhead 1k. I also have an Epifani Piccolo 555 and my tried-and-true SWR Bass 350 from 1994 with an Aural Enhance bypass. I've had no issues with my L2500 overdriving any of those amps. My Trickfish is the work horse and has severed me very well.

Hello! I have an assortment of Rumbles (though not the Stage 800) and I use them with an assortment of G&Ls. Do you find that the bass is distorting? If so, have you tried to turn down the volume to about 75%?

I rarely need to turn the volume up on my bass past 50% or so. While I don't think that is the issue, I will pay more attention to this. I'm also going to try playing with the gain on the amp a bit more to see if reducing it makes a difference. I have plenty of headroom on the amp if more volume is needed.

My Gallien Krueger amps have no problem with g&l basses/mfd pickups.

The monster TBers sorta ignore (with a couple vocal exceptions like me) for some reason is the MB212ii.

It's an all purpose beast, no lie.

Genzler Kinetix is awesome, no issues.
I also run volume of the bass at 90% and other 2 knobs at 75% as "baseline" tone, it's clean.

Active mode, series and everything at 100% is a hot signal and I almost never do it.

When i was gigging, I used a markbass 800 tube amp and 2 1-12" cabs.
Since I've retired I only have a Micromark combo to use at home. I always preamp with a tech 21 vt pedal for more tubey warmth.
Never had any problems with overdriving, although I might've had to adjust the gain downward, as I seldom ever run the guitar volume at less than full.

Acquired yesterday..... Seems to be an '82 by the combination of chrome neck and control plates with a flat black bridge. SN B007066. Now that the registry is shut down, I may never know for sure unless I pull it apart and check the neck and pocket dates.. Truss rod turns smoothly, neck is straight, action low. What more could I ask for? Well, at 10lbs. 2.4 oz, a pound lighter would have made my day. But since this basically just fell into my lap unexpectedly, who am I to complain?

I've been keeping an eye out for a backup l2000 with a jazz neck and noticed this guy on the guitar center website in Corpus Christi. They had it listed as a 98' in poor condition.

I decided to call and ask them to check the neck specs as well as the paint type. The sales guy confirmed the neck size but said, "it's just a beat up old l2000, they didn't do nitro until recently". He was actually really nice and even knocked the price down a little more.

As a side story, I have had work done at a shop called RS Guitarworks. They build custom guitars and do repairs. They told me years ago, that they did a run of nitro relics for G&L. They wanted to offer the "rustic" option, but weren't set up for the paint and relic. G&L sent raw bodies and necks to RS. They painted, reliced, and assembled the guitars and sent them back to G&L.

I went ahead and ordered the L2000 from guitar center knowing I could return it.

Well, I just got it. It's definitely nitro, and the neck felt just like it's had alot of hand working. The neck joint was also dated 2008. I sent RS the pictures and they confirmed this was one they did.

I feel really lucky to have it.

I think G&L eventually was able to do it in house, even before the Custom Shop was a thing. This was from the first batch, so I don't know how long, or how many RS did.
