G&L Club Part 7

Yeah, as much as I would love to see a proper G&L semi-hollow, I know it will never happen.

I'd be shocked if they debuted a short scale bass on a guitar body.

Also, the MJ-5 is just a rumor at this point, no matter who says what about it. Until it actually goes into production it doesn't exist. Which may be never.

(I still want one, though!) :D

I'll try to make some sound clips of these L-1505+ 's.
They have complete authority over the bass region of the mix . . .

I recently decided to get a G&L fiver, so I faced the L v. M issue, and watched Ed Friedland's videos a couple of times. These include an L-2500 v. M-2500 "mashup" in which the M gets pretty darned close to the L-2500's tones. Still, I know what you mean about the L providing more, because the hotter pickups wired in series provide an obscenely humongous tone the M might not be able to achieve.

Even so, I went with the M-2500, which arrived yesterday. I've never liked active-only basses much, but this sounds phenomenal, and despite the underwound pickups it provides plenty of kickin' MFD goodness. As I would with the L-series, I'm cutting the bass EQ because it's so powerful. It is impeccably built and finished, and the sustain and low end clarity are in another universe relative to my MIA Jazz V, which itself is an excellent bass. Yeah, we're in the honeymoon period, but I'm seriously digging the M-2500. (Other G&L's are a 2010 JB and 2007 SB-2.)

Congrats, that's a very cool bass! I really dig the color.

I also have a JB and an SB-2 along with my M2500 tribute. Yeah, the M2500 is a brute. I may get a USA model like yours eventually to replace my tribute.

Oh no disrespect to this thread. The only reason I saw your post is because I'm subscribed. I have a Schecter C-4 and the two things I don't like about it are the huge truss rod cavity (I think the board just lays on top an open channel) and the neck binding that's a hair too sharp.

I need to get some nice pictures of my G&Ls. I've got a late 90's SB-2 and a Indonesian L2000. They're ballsy and beautiful

I was not dising you at all. The only reason I mentioned it is Chef was like the G&L man when I joined tb. And he doesn't own one. At the time I thought it was strange because I had not picked up a bass I liked enough to play for more then 25 seconds since the 1980s.
So I guess I wanted to let him know I get it now.

New member, recently returned from a lonnng break. I too own a G&L. An El Toro from whenever the first year of it was. '83 I think? The poles on the pickups rusted out and they were replaced with Seymour-Duncan active electronics. It's seen a lot of use from back in the day and needs a bit of fret work (ok, maybe a complete refret). I'll probably get that done after I buy a 2nd bass. I'm currently relearning how to play. It's like finding an old friend.

Anyway, here's a picture of this beat up, well worn, and slightly modded bass.
