I recently got another G&L L2500, bought right here on TB.

After some new strings (DR Hi-beams), Dunlop straplocks, and a setup, it is ready to go. The vintage tinting looks awesome. G&L is REALLY good at finishing instruments. Wowiezowie.

My first live test is at rehearsal this evening, with a gig on Friday night. It sounded great in my practice room at home.

Not a bass but I just got in a limited run of Tribute Fallout's. If this goes well maybe I can talk the brass into a limited run bass.

I'm brand new to G&L. Matter of fact, I've never played one until just last week. Then I decided to buy it. The only mark is a little dent on the middle left side. Other than that, pretty minty. USA model--$599.00 at GC.

Does anybody have a G&L bass with a Maple top ? Do you think the top influences the tone ??

I had an ASAT with an ash body and flamed maple top. It looked great. I don't think the top influenced the tone very much (if at all).

I would so love for them to do a short scale 'mustang' style bass based on the fallout. I really want a short scale back in my rack!

Had several, no influence on sound that I could hear. It's only 1/8" thick on G&L's and it's just for looks.

never heard of that before. can you put the strings side-by-side and take a pic? is the ball-end on the KSBs larger than the XLs?

Same problem on my USA L-2500 B string only, using Chromes, a 132 was too big and still has not seated 100 percent. Removed the silk to get it close to seating. Still sounds great and holds tune. Came with 45-130 round wounds, Daddario 170?

I've never had this problem before either. Hard to see the difference- cell phone pictures.

The D'Addario string seats perfectly. The Smith Burner sits down in the ferrule about half way down the ball and the rest of the ball sits above the body of the bass.

In context.

The M pickups are less hot on the wind so they sound "polite". The L has hot pickups that I really like, the switching and hotter p-ups made me decide the L was the choice for me. I added three band EQ and the OMG mod that I never, use.

The difference is in the electronics.

The L-series has 2 of the "original" MFD humbuckers, with series/parallel modes, 3-position selector switch (neck, both, bridge), passive B/T controls, and an 3-way switch for passive, active, and active w/treble boost from the 9V preamp.

The M-series has 2 "new" MFD humbuckers wound specifically for series use (no parallel option). Instead of all the switching options, they have a blend control and 3band EQ (B/M/T), with an 18V preamp.

That's about it, in a nutshell.
