So, after a few months getting acclimated to my new to me G&L's I have a couple of questions for you guys. I read that many of you remove the preamp from the circuit altogether and run the bass passive only, I guess my question is why? I know personal preference and all but why not just run it in passive mode? It's one of the few basses I've come across with a preamp that really maintains it's sound running in passive mode. Is there an advantage to removing the preamp? Also how many of you out there are using the treble boost mode on it? I find it really useful if I want it to get real grindy, especially on my old 82.

Don't know about the preamp as such, but AFAIK the battery is not completely eliminated from the circuit even in the passive mode, affecting the frequency response. On the L-2500 that I used to own removing the battery improved the tone.
That is interesting. I'll have to try that to see if that is the case in my 2500.
I use the pre quite regularly, but without the treble boost. I play direct into the soundboard and the pre just provides a nice buffer, keeps the tone clean and clear. Never use the treble boost, and last time I tried one with no battery was maybe 20 years ago, so I don't recall any details.

Good evening fellow G&L owners. I just acquired a used LB-100 from the classifieds. I'm the third owner but the bass is only a little over a year old. I've noticed that there is still plastic underneath the V&T knobs and nut on the input jack. It looks like the knobs can be unscrewed but what about the nut in the Jack? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just insert the jack into it and then pull out slightly and back off the nut a bit. Then you can remove the plastic.

TI Jazz flats. I use them on my fretless P-Bass also. They just sound right with a P-type bass
Rounds were too edgy for me on the SB-2
I just bought a 1982 L2000E body, which I plan to get refinished. I need to get a control plate (chrome) which seem to be extremely rare, and I can't seem to find any tracing patterns online. I suppose I could use photographs to help create my own pattern, but am worried about distortion and my own feeble visual artistic abilities. Any ideas?
Sold my SB-2. La Bella flats on my SB-1 are enough to summon law enforcement.
