I watched recently a Flea rig rundown. He had all knobs and switches "deactivated" by using tape.

I'm still getting to know my L-2500, but so far I'm finding I like neck/series/passive and both/parallel/active (no treble boost).
I haven't yet found settings I like with just the bridge pickup, same goes for the K-mod setting (single coil). I'm still playing and experimenting, though.

Well, I wired the neck pick up straight to the output jack. It's freaking awesome! It's more alive than it's ever been.
I was going to wire a 3 way switch in since it wouldn't add any load audible to the ear, but the simplicity of the way I have it is just way more convenient.
It's definitely louder and brighter.

By jazz sound do you mean J-bass? It's hard to assign any one sound to that large universe. It's only my opinion, but MFD pickups do not sound like Fender pickups in any configuration, including single-coil, though I think that gets you the closest. To me, the neck pickup in single coil mode turned up sounds more P-like than J-like. YMMV.
Question for you G&L peeps, I have a bass project going that I need a neck for. Someone locally is selling an SB2 neck for $85. The seller is saying that it's stamped 1994 but it has the older style headstock that makes him think it's from the 80s.
Would that be possible and how are the quality of SB2 necks? Are they similar to a J or P? Is the heel similar size to a Fender and would it fit in a Fender-style body?

Quality would be good. Make the obvious checks for a functioning truss rod, straight neck, etc.
On the older necks, radius will be 7.5", pretty much into the 90s. Nut width would carry, so you could see anything from 1-1/2" to 1-3/4". I had an '84 that was 1-5/8".
The heel won't fit a Fender body without some sort of modifications. G&Ls are longer at the heel (extra fret), are a hair narrower and are squared off more than a Fender. So you'd either have to sand the neck or cut into the body, and you'd still have slight gaps on the sides.
That said, $85 would be a good dealing the neck is on good condition.

If it were me, I wouldn't bother unless you're good with this kind of stuff. Just get a Fender (or Warmouth etc aftermarket) neck and bolt her up.
If you start modifying the body or neck to fit each other, you can't undo it if it goes wrong.
Just my opinion tho.

If it's not going to be an easy fit I won't get it. I think I'll at least check it out and see how it fits in my body. If not, no big deal I'll pass.

As TDR1138 mentioned, with the extra fret on the G&L neck, it won't be easy to do. Plus there are two styles of mounting. Old style is a three bolt with tilt function. Newer style is 6 bolt with no tilt.

It'll be a waste of your time. It won't come anywhere close to fitting. Might be cool to see the difference though if you don't have anything else to do.
As TDR1138 and Lowendtech said, for a G&L neck to fit a Fender-style body, one or the other has to be modified. This thread recently came up where a G&L neck was modified to fit a fender body. The pics highlight what had to be done. Have fun!
