There should be a small nylon pad that actually presses against the G-string saddle and comes before the screw in the hole. Not sure if this is included with the 'tremolo arm tension' screws from the G&L online store. Without the pad, the locking screw alone may be too short. And/or damage the end of the thread in the hole.

Yes, the nylon bushings are included. This from the G&L site:
"Complete set of (6) tension screws w/ nylon bushings. These are the little Hex screws that hold the vibrato arm in on G&L Dual Fulcrum tremolo-equipped guitars and are also used on the side of G&L Saddle Lock bridge to lock the saddles together. There are 2 different thread configurations: For US instruments 2005 and older, use part # 080215-000 (Standard), for US instruments 2006 and later and all Tribute instruments use part # 080215-100 (Metric)."
Getting those little buggers into the hole first and following them with the screw so that the nylon part bears correctly against the bridge is at least 80% of the fun of installing these.

Beautiful set of basses!! I don't know the answer to your question, but I have always assumed it was the tele association.
I know there's a distinct difference on the ASAT and Legacy headstock shapes, to appear more "Tele" and "Strat" like. Even the older LB-100 had a more "Precision" of a cut to it.
So, to your question Cuzzie, I don't know for certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case that the ASATs were meant to look more like a Tele, but I wouldn't put it past G&L either if the #7 neck on the silver one was originally cut for a L-2000 and just pulled to make the custom order.

Thoughts on your JB5 this far?
On the left, 2013 and on the right 2016. Both are top notch high quality-- and better than any Fender I've played (and I really like Fender's too). Whatever material they used for the pickup covers on the JB5 feels more comfortable and a bit more high-end than that of the 4-string which are typical Fender-type covers; nothing wrong with either, I just like the JB5 covers better.
Cases have changed from the fitted G&G to a more generic non-fitted G&G... that began happening around the summer of 2014 or so. Again, not a big deal as it's still a good quality case. Personally, I always get a quality soft case to replace the traditional hardshell cases, so the change was of little consequence. Anyway, find one you like and go for it!

What is it with G&L these days that they can't manage to do even basic shielding on an instrument with an otherwise exemplary fit/finish? It just baffles me!

show on friday, need a really clean loud tone with the 200 watt tube head, either the L2000 with rounds or the sb-2 with flats, leaning toward the L2000, because i can run it into the mini moog delay if i need more booty and volume without distorting it, haven't experimented with the sb-2 too much yet

Before I get started, remember I've spent my entire bass-playing life on a 4-string
A few weeks ago I took the new bass on stage for the first time. Having previously used it in my practice sessions, I was feeling pretty comfortable with that additional string and significantly wider neck. It turned out that I wasn't quite ready.
A's become E's... practice, practice, practice
Being a visual learner, that 5th string kept tripping me up. This problem was not about me actually looking at the fingerboard, rather I have a mental image of the fingerboard, and that guides where my fingers rest. There were several times I was thinking "A" (5th fret, E-string) but ended up playing the "E"on the B-string. That disconnect between my brain and fingers continued throughout our set, but not enough to be a distraction. It was however, enough for me to sideline the hotrod 5-string for a while longer-- just until I can reprogram my mental visualization to include separate "maps" for each type of bass.
We have rehearsals tomorrow night, and I plan on taking it along with me again and see how I do with it.
One thing that can be ever so slightly annoying is the Empress wood body is so light that neck-dive is an issue when playing without a strap. With a grippy neoprene strap the dive is nearly eliminated-- just an occasional adjustment every once in a while. The bass itself is really light, at just over 8 pounds, and for that my bad back rejoices!
