Careful with that fiver.....you might just like it enough to start changing your whole stable over. That's what happened to me. Thirty years and countless Four strings. Now I'm down to one and I'm looking to sell it to fund another G&L fiver.Last week I finished building out our music room; it's a far more useable space than it once was. Now all my basses can be displayed-- most of which are G&Ls, so what better place than the G&L Club to share a few photos of my G&L Wall of Fame
The group from left to right:
- Emerald Green JB purchased when I earned my BA
- Himalayan Blue LB-100; one of the first reissues, and my first G&L bass. It's been patiently awaiting a set of flats...
- SB-1; a rescue I found in the French Quarter, and quite possibly the best feeling/sounding bass I've ever played
- LB-100 Detroit Muscle R/T Series in Plum Crazy; special order from Rocket Music. A wonderful surrogate for my dream car I will likely never be able to afford (68/69 Roadrunner).
- Blue burst L-2000; purchased at Bass Northwest shortly before they closed shop-- a gift for our 10th wedding anniversary
- Turquoise metal flake JB-5; my first 5-string. Purchased last year after earning my Masters degree. A beautiful instrument in every respect, but I discovered that I'm not really a 5-string guy. A few months ago when I bought a closeout 2016 Fender American Standard Precision I promised my wife I'd sell one to justify the new one-- so the JB5 is on the block. Needless to say I'm in no hurry to sell itStill on the fence whether or not I want to reinstall the pickguard
Someday I would like to add a Kiloton and an El Toro to the collection, but again, no hurry-- I'm blessed to have what I do. So now its off to the woodshed-- gotta put these tools to work!
That's funny, I primarily played a 5 and transitioned down to 4 and never looked back... Then again, I've intentionally kept from owning another 5 because I might fall back in love...
My G&L Tribute L2500 just arrived at my work. First impressions are fantastic. I'll have to wait until I'm home for a full test drive.
Update: oh oh oh oooooooooh yeah. The G&L is fantastic. It took me a bit to figure out where I like the switches and knobs, but oh my! My amp is very happy......as am I. The more I play it the more I love it.
If this is your first MFD G&L consider keeping the volume know at around 75 to 80%

While I really do like the bass, I'm just not a 5-stringer so it's in the Classified section. Probably should put it on Craigslist as well, but I just can't bear dealing with the dozen or so flakes one must deal with before meeting a serious buyer. Besides, the longer it stays for sale, the more I get to enjoy it

L-2XXX owners, does anyone use independent series/parallel/single coil switches for each pickup? Is there any phase issues, or other problems with this setup? And i already searched in talkbass and bassbyleo but i couldn't find a diagram for it.
I've done that in the past. Works great, with some very usable sounds. Go for it.
I already have k-mod and an extra switch to select inner - outer coils. Did you noticed any hiss, noise etc.? Do you have a wiring diagram for this mod?
It's just a standard series/parallel/single coil wiring, so no special diagrams. Each pickup gets a switch and then each output from the 2 switches goes to either a pickup selector, or (as in my case) separate volume controls. Or you could use a blend pot.
As for noise, there's some single-coil hum if only one coil is selected, but otherwise it's fine. Just keep your inner/outer coils matched and it will be noise-free, like a jazz bass with both coils on.
