Yeah it does, doesn't it. The pics are not too good, but on some of them I think I can see some grain thru the finish. Hoping for Butterscotch, but Ivory would be sweet too.

The auction headline is right. It's a genuine Made in USA (re: light alloy tuners, walnut dot on the peghead back, no 'Tribute series' decal on the front, CLFxxxxx sn, etc.), not a Tribute.
Anyway, a nice instrument.

Based on the review, I think I'm still an L series guy,. I can see the M series being attractive to folks who didn't care for the eccentric L series controls or just thought the sound as just "too much". I love the L series basses for both reasons.

Exactly. Although he says "mint" in the title, there is no customary subsequent commentary whatsoever, neither about the upgrades, nor any other details.
He actually had two JB-2's listed, same lack of info on both. Fascinating, makes me wonder how he acquired them. I have a hunch, but won't know 'til they arrive.

Same here. I dig the sheer brutality of the L-series. You can always dial out some of it when need be. And with the K-switch option, the L-series basses are even more merciless than ever.
That said, if G&L puts out an MV-5 I'm going all-in for one. I'm that impressed with my MV-4, a seriously excellent active jazz bass. Active only, but like Ed says, "I don't wanna go passive"!
The M series sounds smoother and very fat (that slap tone!) compared to the more, ahem, guttural L series, and I emphasise that I haven't played either, but I think I would feel more at home with the L series which doesn't confuse me at all, and I like the active/passive choice and particularly the series/parallel choice. But the MJ4 is so nice aaagh.
I'm developing an interest in the MJ4 bass but I haven't seen any used anywhere right now. Must b too early.
Interesting how noticeable the difference in sound is, with the bridge "locked", and "not locked".
Never noticed it on any of my other G&L's. Maybe that says something about the MV-4 (or my ears!).
I was surprised what a difference it made on my tribby sb2, its just more powerful and focussed.
Played an M-2000 Tribute today and was quite impressed. That typical G&L feel and vibe and a rich variety of very usable sounds, I enjoyed using the EQs. Classy slap sounds, notably. It lacked a bit in capability of unleashing both of that tonal purity and that aggrevise growl of my L-1500, though. I like and prefer that one for my current needs, no GAS here atm.
No doubt the Tribute M-2000 is a very good allround bass that fits in most any typical band context with its solid and distictive but not overly aggressive/rough character, plus it is very easy and intuitive to use.
