Any Lynx Lovers out there?

Been wanting one for years. Bahama Blue '85. It's heavy, but I expected that. Strong mid-heavy sound. Flat neck profile is to die for.

I don't find the OMG mod subtle at all. I didn't get a huge bass boost, but it changes the presence and, to my ears, makes a passive bass sound like an active bass. I have the OMG Mod installed on both my L2500 Tribute as well as another dual humbucker equipped bass.

Yeah, OMG mode is called that for a reason. Sounds like possibly you didn't get something just right in your wiring?

That's what I was thinking! I've wired it according to this document: Invalid Link Removed

Page 9: "8. Parallel – Single Coil Outside – Series Mod (3-Position 4PDT)"
I've got the 2 caps (C1 and C2) wired into my push/pull pot. They are either connected as the diagram, or shorted out.

Is this correct for OMG?

Outsider, I will try to record my L-2500 as you requested and post a clip. But, it may be a week or two before I will have time to attempt it.

In the meantime, I finally took some decent pictures of my SB-2. First ones since I've had it, and that's been over a year! And now, it has been modded to have Master Volume and Tone, so you can see the 2 stacked pots in the pictures.

Just a thought, when comparing series-without-omg and series-with-omg the change is subtle. When comparing parallel with series-without-omg or parallel with series-with-omg then series does sound "OMG". Is this where the term came from? Or is it when comparing series-with-omg and series-without-omg?

When everyone is referring to the OMG mode, exactly what are you expecting?

The OMG mode was on the passive L-1000's and it basically boosts the lows and the highs (and the mids get reduced). My experience with it was that it does sound louder, lower, etc. but the note definitely loses out.

Not sure how you've wired the active L2K series to get the "OMG" mode.

K wiring is just a single coil option.

On mine, Series vs Series/OMG is quite noticeable. OMG mode is "OMG" no matter what other setting you're coming from.

Maybe you should just buy mine (sale link is in my sig) and then you'll see for yourself. ;)

When you say the active L2K series are you thinking/meaning the M2K series?

The L-2000 and L-2500 definitely have an OMG mode. Though, I do recall reading something that left me with the understanding that G&L has changed the wiring over the years and not all L-2xxx basses have OMG mode from the factory.

Hang on. I have been misremembering somewhat. I don't have Series AND Series w/OMG on mine. I had Series and Parallel and I sent it back to G&L and they re-wired it for Series/Parallel/Single Coil. And the other switches are Pickup 1/2/Both, and Passive/Active/Active w/Treble Boost.

That said, I am 99% sure that my Series mode does have the OMG cap. But, I honestly cannot say how Series vs Series/OMG compares as mine has only ever had the one Series mode.

Outsider, I apologize if I've led you down a path paved with red herrings.

The L2K/L2.5K have 3 switches. The first is pickup selector. The middle is usually series/parallel or series/single coil/parallel (if K option). The third is a 3-way (passive, active, active w/ treble boost). It's not the OMG mode.

You really need to get a hold of one of the old L1000 to know what the OMG mode is.

I do believe Ken Baker had put out a diagram of how to do the OMG mode wiring but not many have actually done it.

I'm not referring to the M2K series. L2K's were originally passive and then became the L2KE (electronics).

G&L stopped doing the OMG mode years ago.

If you read the first post there is a quote where someone says that they couldn't hear the OMG mod and took it out. I'm guessing that mine is correct.

You are correct. Mine is wired as you described (with the single coil mode). However I've also got a push/pull pot that includes 2 caps. This is what I thought the OMG mod was.
