G&L Club Part 7

I'm not aware of any US-distributed Korean (1st gen) or Indonesian (everything since then) Tribute ASATs but the Tribute name was originally a line of G&Ls built in Japan for the Japanese market, and I think they are still going strong. They have some interesting stuff (pickguards on L2Ks!) and I think usually have a skunk-striped neck. I've never seen one in person, but Japanese-sourced G&Ls seem to be flooding ebay and other places these days. So it may be a real Japanese Tribute and I understand those are pretty nice quality.

Agree that it's a Japanese Tribute. I've seen a few Tribute ASAT basses (pictures, not in person). Not made in the same factories as the current Tribute line. If I recall correctly, made under license by a third party just for the Japanese market, but the quality is reputed to be somewhere between the current MII Tribute line and USA lines.

With all due respect, therein lies the flaw in your logic. You assumed that I either wanted or needed your help. I have tried several 6x10 enclosures. They don't suit my wants or needs. They fail to meet the requirements for my musical projects. That's neither good nor bad. It is simply a statement of fact.

It's awesome that you've found what you like and I'm glad that you like it. But this had nothing to do with the conversation we were having. You, very literally, jumped into a very specific sub-conversation in this thread, interjected your unrelated opinion and then got offended when I, trying to use humor to soften the blow, tried to point out that we were talking about 8x10 enclosures, not 6x10s. We weren't asking for opinions or advice about them. We were having a very pointed discussion about having @armyadarkness bring some heads to try out on my cabinets.
I am not saying that you can't or shouldn't involve yourself in the conversation, however, you interrupted with something completely off topic and, frankly, uncalled for (I don't think any of us need to be saved from ourselves - we aren't talking about injecting poison into our veins). When you were called out on it, you chose to take a glib and condescending tone and try to espouse that you are only trying to save me from myself. Those aren't the choices of someone trying to be a productive participant. Those are the choices of a troll.

For the record, there are very productive and welcome ways to enter a conversation. Here is a great example :thumbsup:

as i was posting about my JB and my SB-2... i saw a few posts about cabs...i didn't read them all...I was merely pointing out i really love my Mesa PH 2x12's!? nothing else intended or inferred other than to convey my love of my 2x12's

Exactly, you posted your love of the 2x12's without disparaging the 8x10's :) @oldskoolskatedad had it right on in his post above :thumbsup: You were being used as a good example, no worries!

The push to the L for me was the passive vs.active need/ preference. But I would really like the blend functionality on my L. It's not something crazy to pull off, just requires some research on TB and some minor electronics work :thumbsup:

Well, all this talk about Tributes and M-Series intrigued me enough to pick up this Tribute M2K GTS for $400 w/case. Aesthetically, any quite possibly sonically, this bass is not exactly my standard cup of tea, but what can I say, I'm a sucker for binding and I can't say I've ever played a G&L that wasn't enjoyable in most regards.

Lol... Those are baby cabs and rigs for me! I would bring those to Grandma's for practice at Thanksgiving. Lol... but... as I've already informed everyone... I'm not always an idiot, but when I am, I do it big!

I've had many American SB-2, and I could never fully embrace the tone for my tastes, but toward the end of my stint with them, I noticed that they sounded much better through my Orange AD200 tube head, than they did through my solid state Markbass stuff.

As a long time precision guy, something was missing, and I personally found the bridge pup to serve little or no purpose... I did every electronics mod imaginable, starting with the tone control, and I never found anything that got it close to my precision tone.

I never touch my tone knob, meaning I'm full treble, the organic sound of the instrument at all times, so adding a tone pot in the SB-2 was pretty useless, since all it could do was take away bass.

If you have an SB2 and love the sound, then just tinker with your amp to perfect it. Adding the tone knob can only remove a little treble, which is so easy to do on the amp.

However, it's an easy mod to do if your set on doing so. Just stack the two pups on one pot and put a tone pot wher the bridge pup vol was.

If I got an SB2 again, I'd stack the pup volumes on the neck pot and add a Fender TBX where the bridge pup pot was. That would give the widest array of tonal options from the bass, and possibly have provided what I couldn't find in it.
