G&L Club Part 7

Is there a noticeable difference btwn preamp versions in the g&l l2000? Mine seems to be in good working order, just curious if I'm missing a feature.

I recently got a 1997 with a version 1.0 preamp. On the g&l store I saw they're up to version 1.3.

Here's the bass

Thanks guys. I'll talk to a local tech about the project. I'm wondering instead of the typical L-1000 switch + 3 knobs if it's possible to use 2 stacked/concentric knobs instead to service those 4 functions.

Nice looking bass, congrats.

For a 'missing feature' you could add the K-switch mod, for single coil mode.

Mine has it from the factory, outer coils. Sounds killer.

Good luck finding the concentric pots for the tone control (I've tried). They are basically custom pots, at least the 1M bass control is. Probably the only way to get them concentric is to custom build. It can be done, I believe, but it's not common.

Also, you can't replicate the function of the switch on the L-1000 with a pot. The best a pot can do is blend between coils, but it can't give you series wiring, and will create extra loading on the bass control circuit, which will change how it works.

That's a beauty, Rod. Shoreline Gold?

Like the neck binding.....just for the highly visible side dots. Nice upgrade.

Yeah, the tone controls work in passive mode, and are cut only. Can't recall if "flat" is totally rolled off, despite having been playing G&L's since day 1.

Did you get it with the K-switch option for single coil mode?

Anyway congrats!

Hi guys.
I recently got this sweet ASAT

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Are the controls - Bass & Treble controls- s'posed to work with the pre amp switched off? Mine do.....:wacky:

Oh, and they're boost or cut only??? Can't remember which.
I mean when they're dialed back or OFF is that s'posed to be flat or ???

Very nice!

The tone controls are passive, and therefor cut only. FLAT is both rolled all the way up (all the way ON). There is nothing being added to or subtracted from the signal of the pickups, thus they are truly flat.

Here is the 1983 G & L Hog Wunkay I bought. Setup is horrible and it has been scatter-strung (new unknown set of strings). Well, I have all the tools and the patience. The neck seems chunky enough to play! The volume pot housing was loose so I pressed it together with pliers and the crackling stopped. This was the only real problem known to the seller. After a proper setup, this sounds like a keeper, at this point.

Thanks Templar. I have to play it sitting down, through an Ampeg Micro VR and headphones. The strings are most likely D'Addarios, there's something funky going on in the E string, strange modulation... I need to get rid of that.

You probably already know but if they are colored ball ends they're D'Addario.
I'd be willing to bet the string modulation is due to a twisted string.
