Lb-100 stock man. Great pickup. Get rosewood if you wanna darken it up... or that other knob besides the volume! Haha. The stock pickup can sound like a vintage p but also be aggressive unlike a rosewood fender p.

I do like the LB-100 native tone. There are some very snarly high mids and throaty low mids. And the bass just about plays itself. But even with a rosewood fretboard and tone rolled all the way off, it ain't Motown. There is a lack of deep bottom IMHO. Hence my question: cap, EQ or aftermarket pup?

Did you watch Eds videos? He got that thing pretty motown! BUT I will agree with you its not its default setting. I personally wanted a P with pick rock tone & its perfect.

Hello people!!! I just recently picked up this l2000 for $649 from GC. I believe it is from 1987. I see these things going for all different prices. How did I do??

I think so! I have 2 of them. The L2000 is so versatile it has a great variety of tones. I like the wider nut width - the old ones from the '80s especially. For my '83 (the early ones are most desirable imo) I paid $950 and for my 2006 w ebony board (also a desirable option I think) I paid like $750 so you got a good deal.

Doing a search on the tube for some L1500 examples I stumbled across this kid. He plays great and his L1500 sounds wonderful. Check out his other vids.

My Stingray of 20 years got stolen a few years back. I have a Jazz bass now, and I really like it, but I still miss my Stingray like crazy. I know this sounds weird, but it just doesn't feel right for me to seek out another Stingray, 'cuz it'll never be my Stingray. I'm thinking the L1500 might be a good replacement instead. Too bad they're so hard to find. I'd love to check one out in person.

From my experience, the L1500 will give you lots of Sting Ray-like sound options, and the quite a lot more. But be aware it doesn't feel at all like a Sting Ray to me - much slimmer & faster neck.

Personally I think the L2K is one of the most versatile basses tonally out there - especially for that price. It never ceases to amaze me that such great basses (G&L guitars too) go for so little. Maybe in the big picture they are selling for a reasonable cost and Fenders, MM's and similar quality axes are just way overpriced. baffling

But if you really want tone choices do what I did.
I never played in active mode so both of my L25Ks have them removed with upgraded switches to on/on/on giving me full coil tapping on both pickups.
I love this so much I sold the chips to another tber

That's actually better, in a way. I played my Stingray for so long. Now that it's gone, I get bummed out when I play another one. So, similar but different is good.

When it's all said and done, I'll probably end up with another Stingray. I can't seem to find an L1500 to demo. It's not a bass anyone seems to stock.

Plenty of L2000s around, though. I really like the ones I've played, but they're not quite the same.

Here's my heavily gigged and loved 1981 L1000. It's checked to all hell and the finish has worn off of the maple neck in several places. All original except for the thumb rest, knobs, and Hipshot tuners. Someone installed a string retainer on the headstock at some point, but it was removed and holes filled before I acquired the bass. It weighs in at about 9 lbs and is a very versatile and fun bass to play.

:O Good god! That is maybe the most beautiful G&L I've ever seen! If I could find a L-2000 version of this, I would be in heaven.

I just love these old 1K's. They seem to have surprisingly individual personalities.

Hey G&L guys, I have a question I thought this may be a good place to ask. I've really wanted a G&L. And bought one - a Tribute SB-2. Super sexy, sounded great too. But I realized long scale was not for me, so off it went. Sadly G&L makes nothing but 34" scale. So say I want to build my own medium or short scale with an MFD. Specifically the L-1000 configuration (passive). In addition to the MFD pickup and a body routed to accommodate it, are there any other G&L-specific electronics I need? Or is it just a matter of wiring that pickup to the appropriate non-G&L knobs/switch? Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

You can buy the pu through G&L - the harness you'll need to assemble using their schematics but it's not to difficult.
