Kinda funny, as I was thinking an SB/Kilo body with 2 M-series pickups and a simple passive wiring would be a damn cool bass.
Pretty cool they were already thinking about that nearly 30 years ago.

No not while I worked there (Iwas there in the 80s tributes did not exist).
No pics, sorry) I did build a few with rejected components while there.
We did a run of basses that were an SB body with an L-series pickup (bridge only) and only a volume control, inspired by the success if the Rampage guitar. I don't think they made it outta the factory. They had the sicle headstock, Kahler bass trems, all black hardware and no pick guard.

If you mean the 80s SB2, I likely did the fretwork, as that was my primary workstation. My intials aren't on the butt so I didn't shape the neck or body on this one.
So if y'all like the factory fretwork from @83 -88.... You are welcome.

Funny thing after I went into the control cavity and rooted around the hum is gone.

Put the lid back on, don't touch anything, and step slowly away from the bass...don't make any sudden movements...keep your hands where we can see them...

Awesome thanks! Do you remember when the first pointy stocks started? My first L2000 was from 5/83 with a gouger. Heavy and sticky, otherwise i would have kept it but i think it was one of the early ones. Yes. Heavy and sticky.

I had to lower the MFDS on mine to get a more balaneed sound. Worked well for mellowing those mids some. Try it.

i just ordered a new rosewood clf L2000 neck for my 84 black series, that way i can still play it while i'm addressing the myriad of issues that have developed over the years from refrets and improper neck planing, ugh

Are they drilling it for the 3 bolt for you too? Or is that left up to you?

Yes. You mentioned having one with 2 full size MFDs.

Those MFD single coils sound freaking great. I used mine at rehearsal this week and it was killer. Love the first gen SB-2. No mere J bass can hold a candle...

I have no hands on experience with the original SB-1/2 basses, but I've heard from others that those MFD single coils are nothing like the one in the current SB-2. Apparently they're louder/fuller sounding.

They're very hot. Much louder/fuller than my J bass.

A few years back I had a Peavey Foundation that sounded like a louder/fuller J bass,
but due to balance issues and a gear purge, it got sold.
If those p'up sound anything like the super ferrites, I'd love a reissue/new model
with those hotter MFD S/Cs.

I've never heard anything quite like these early MFD single coils. They punch hard.

I can only imagine how the MFD singles would sound.

Have you ever hears Nordsrand Big Singles in series?
I'm guessing there might be similar qualities.
