Not exactly an L-2500, but on my L1K I set it in series, bass @ 10, treble @ 0 and roll the volume back to about 50%. Could also do same settings in parallel with volume up full.

I love me some Frankie B - I own one of his short lived Fender sig basses. Stock pickups are shite, swaped them out for Dimarzio DP126 PJ set. Jazz body/P neck - perfect for me!
Man that neck looks great. That looks like an older L2000 like mine - did you need to mod the neck pocket at all?
Man can not live by bass alone.
Frequently there must be treble, mid range, and sometimes even a female vocalist.
But I draw the line at too many drummers and only permit guitarists who are not better than me.
I got the bass as-is. It looks like they had to mod it slightly. but nothing crazy. Its a great feeling neck and the bass plays and sounds great.

Sounds like a bad ground in your home or bass. Try first plugging in your amp on another circuit, and then if it still does it, try plugging it in at a friends house. If the hum goes away, then it's your homes outlet, if not, it's in the bass or cord... but I'm assuming that you've already ruled out the cord.
For me, it looks something like:
Switches:
pup selector: Both
series/ parallel: Series
active/ passive: Passive
Knobs:
volume: full
bass: 100%
treble: ~70%
On my 2500, that config combo gives a nice round tone.
I bought a used Tribute M-2500, great bass ! (but you know that already...). I have a few questions :
-When the PU pan control is set at center detent the sound is rounder, less 'grit' than when set immediately out of detent. Is it my imagination or does it have to do with series/parallel settings ?
-The B string volume is slightly weaker on the bridge PU. I have to check the PU height, but can it be that I have to raise the pole pieces ?
-Talking of PU height, I couldn't find factory settings for PUs. Are they the same as the L ?

That sounds like a grounding issue to me. When you touch the strings it stops (you are grounding the circuit with your hands). It's possible the ground wire has come loose.
