This one rips! I love it. Gonna shim the neck neck string change to get the action down a little more. It had a few minor issues that I fixed right away.

Uh... that looks identical to the ASAT bass I just sold to GC a few weeks back. Is it at the Austin location? If so, she's a great bass, but weighed too much for my aging back.

I bought it used, and it had some nice custom options I wasn't aware of when I first bought it:

Matching headstock
Quartersawn neck
Rear body contour
9.7 lbs

Same one. I noticed the quartersawn neck right off. Is the board rosewood or ebony? The only possible good thing about a heavier ASAT is there should be less dive. This will be Chapter 7 in my tenuous affairs with an ASAT and my Chapter 6 Semi-hollow fretless is on the block. It's worth the $20 shipping & 45 day return policy (long as they stay solvent) to try out but alas, with our track record...

It's a rosewood fretboard, though yeah, a darker shade for this specimen. And yeah, while the neck dive was noticeable if I let go of the bass, my technique sort of naturally counters even the worst dive (played an SG bass for a while). Huge low end on this one, even when compared to my L2K which shares the same pickups and electronics as the ASAT.

Small world :)

The huge low end of my old L1&2K's has always been missing in the ASAT's I've had. I have it's sound covered 3x over so if it doesn't work out that's OK. But she sure is gorgeous. ASAT's are a bass version of the first and last day of boat ownership and you're forever Murry in Groundhog Day.

I love Interceptors, I built one left handed NECK Right hand body and a Kahler trem....
they always reminded me of a Mid-Century modern art piece especially in 2 tone... Jetson-esc Atomic age.

Is that one purple mist pearl?

To me that looks like a manufacturing defect that has slipped through inspection. The pole piece looks to be well out of square, and the one to the right isn't a whole lot better.

It probably doesn't affect the sound but on a new instrument it would bother me no end. You paid top dollar for it so you expect it to be top quality.

I would send a copy of the photo and the all the bass details to G&L and see what they say.

Never noticed.
While the quality may be questionable, there's nothing like the smell of a new Gibson.

There's a kid at work that has one of those vape deals, and the stuff he has smells similar.
Every time I catch a whiff I think "Gibson"

Your opinion carries great weight here... I'll try not to hate Gibson so much anymore. Truth be told, Epi Thunderbird was built like a tanke, but then Gib quality nose dived, and their customer service with it. But really.... Never smelt the G&L!!!!
