Anyway, back to G&L stuff. Has anybody bought a 5-string JB, yet? Still hoping they'll make a passive SB-2 fiver.

I'd love to hear a MJ-5 myself. My Fender Jazz V is holding up pretty well though. Not tonally versatile though, thats for sure
So I did a test with my SB-2. Where in the past I've had basses (including my LB-100) that buzzed even through a battery powered amp and therefore not plugged directly into an outlet, the SB-2 only buzzes when plugged in to my amp. It's quiet through my Tascam GT-R and my Pignose Hog30. I'll get it shielded tomorrow.
My L2500 picks up radio sometimes.Maybe I need a tinfoil hat.
This is shielding hum, not it picking up radio or anything like that. Buzzing that stops when I touch the strings or other metal part of the bass. My LB-100 did the same thing and when I got it shielded it stopped.
Hmmm. My '97 SB-2 hums from the bridge pickup at certain volume settings but the neck pup is quiet as a mouse. A mouse that roars!!! 
I get hum from the bridge pickup, but that normal constant hum that doesn't go away no matter what you do. It's the buzzing that stops and starts when you take your hands off the strings that drives me crazy. But, she'll get shielded and be as quiet as Helen Keller's pet mouse.
Also, while you're at it, check your bridge grounding. The "hands off strings" buzz is a symptom of poor string grounding. String potential is grounded by the bridge connection to ground, usually a black wire from under the bridge to the tone pot chassis.
It's with my tech. I'm sure he'll check that. But I had the exact same problem with an LB-100 and shielding fixed it 100%.

That's not hum, that's...."tone".
I'm on my eighth one, they all do that. May be problematic for recording situations, but live.....who cares?
And only if you solo it and I'm not sure how many of us do that.

anybody using TI Jazz flats.
I am getting very tired (and frustrated) with 5 string sets where the B string thuds, is a lot deader than the other strings, has like 1/3 the sustain of the other strings.
I gave up with string through on my m2500 and mounted GHS pressure wounds and now DR Fat Beams top side with good results.
I just picked up a used L2500 and wanted to use some kind of flat or half wound through body, but so far GHS Brite Flats (that on the other 4 strings sound great and can take adavantage of all the L2500's tone manipulation) and D'addario half wounds (which have worked on a Yamaha BB425) -- both have the thuddy dead B string.
So some say the TI flats as expensive as they are solve all such problems
I'd like to get some testimony before I commit. I do have GHS precision flats on order.
