G&L Club Part 7

Looks to be that way. What's the rest look like?

So I'm getting back on the horse when it comes to G&L and placing another order. Some of you might have known the nightmare that was my LB-100 build. The SB-2 put my faith back in them as far as their quality, but lets see if they can make me another custom and do it right the first time..

I just placed an order with Greg @ Rocket Music for a fretless SB-1.

Ash Body
Whiskey Finish (new for all guitars)
Tort Pickguard
#12 Neck, Quartersawn, Light Tint Satin
Unlined Rosewood Board

Here's what the color of the body and pickguard should look like. This is Whiskey over Ash. That color was originally only on the Jerry Cantrell Signature which was maple and on Maple it looks completely different. I'm basically going for a Walnut 70's Fender Fretless vibe.

As an owner of a 1977 walnut fretless P (maple board though) and a G&L lover, I fully support this order. If you are concerned about the quality, have Greg give me a call when it comes in and I'll drive a mile down the road and give it a good once-over for ya.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. He knows what I went through with my LB-100 so I'll have him give it the fine tooth comb treatment. Though it's a fretless, it's harder to screw up IMO.

Greg will do it right. But Greg's a busy man. Have him just give me the bass for a week or so. Sometimes you can't know everything's ok until you've put some time in on it.

Just sayin' I'm here for ya...

Stunning color!

By the way, this is an ASAT special with jumbo G&L MFD™ single coils...

I'm sure this has been answered in this mega thread somewhere...
Can you order any bass with the Rustic finish or do you have to wait until they issue the bass you want in that finish?
I have an '97 SB-2 that has been my main ax for 17 years but I keep thinking I want a nitro bass. Would be cool to have the LB100 in the Rustic finish.

I believe they only do the JB in Rustic finish. I had inquired about getting a different neck option (#6) instead of the default option and the answer was "No". But, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I feel badly about your LB-100 experience, Fourstringdrums, because my G&L purchases have been fantastic. I absolutely love my LB-100! Despite that, I'm glad you haven't written off G&L.

The whiskey finish over ash is sweet! I hope you have better luck this time around.

Well in the end it worked out. I actually prefer the SB-2 over the LB-100. It has more clarity to my ear. It's more aggressive but it can be tamed. I'm in an apartment so the volume never goes beyond 50% so it's perfect.

I think the volume/tone setup of the SB-1 will suit me more for fretless. I almost never use the bridge pickup on them if they have one.

Something else I noticed about my SB-2. I took the knobs off so I could take off the pickguard film and I noticed that the pots are split shaft. My LB-100 produced last year also had solid shaft pots. Do they do that if they were running short of solid shaft pots?
