I need a fiver for church otherwise i would have too. Sterling 5hh got the call
So the treble control on my 83 L1k didn't seem to be working, so I opened the control cavity and found this. I'm not sure the wiring is original - the shindig (pardon my non technical description) between the volume and treble pots doesn't match the schematic - it's marked .022, not .097 as in the schematic on guitarsbyleo. What would the effect of this be?

I'm in a quandary.
I've developed a real attachment to my M2500. Someone suggested putting DR Fat Beams on it and while I'd never previously considered myself a roundwound zingy, buzzy sort, I can't imagine taking these strings off. They deliver.
So now I start thinking I need another bass that I can put flats on or at least half wounds or pressure wounds.
So I start thinking about ordering a G&L mj5, but putting flats of a jazz bass seems backwards and all and I can't really justify the price at this time.
So my thinking evolves to -- why not buy an m2500 Tribute I know how much I like that USA bass and I could put GHS Brite Flats on that? nice honeyburst appeals to me.
I can justify that price point if I sell off some other gear.
Then my thinking goes why buy a Tribute m2500, why not go for a Tribute L2500 and get different electronics for an even greater range?
tobacco sunburst is ok, but not as nice as honeyburst.
So what I really want is a 5 string LB100, but that's not coming anytime soon, so the mj5 was the next best thing in my mind, but what G&L 5 string would be next to get closest to an 'enhanced' P bass thump, but with some sustain and tonal range and options? Honestly another m2500 may be enough, I just don't know.

If you really love your M2500; I see now flaw with your Tribute M2500 plan.
The L2500 is a pretty different bass. Dunno if you'd like that or not.
Fender make a great P5; and, if you get with Greg at Rocket Music, you might be able to order an L1005. Either of those would be great with flats.
Jazz basses should never get flats; at least, for me

Get an l2500 and remove the actives upgrade the two switches to on/on/ on
This will give a passive l with full coil tapping
I have done this to both of my L 2500 and love it so much I sold the two chips to a fellow tb r.
I also run fender flats and now have this sound I have always heard in my head
I have the diagrams to do this mod if you want them. They are also here somewhere in this thread.

I know the L2500 has a greater variety of tone and generally 'hotter' and more 'ballsy', but how much would I really be missing if I stayed 'at home' with another m2500 decked out with flats or half wounds as far as general P thump tone
I have a Yamaha BB425x with D'addario half wounds and I'd be happy enough if the m2500 got that tone with the same strings or even flatter flats.
(I would be trading the Yamaha in as the neck doesn't suit me as well as the G&L 5'er neck)

Well I found a used USA L2500 at guitar center in Seattle in a natural finish and a good price, so I went with that. Should know more in 4 or 5 days when it arrives at a local store. And with a 30 day return policy the risk is minimal.
I have always been an L series player (by happy accident at first), but had to see what was up with a P+flats. Here is my new LB-100: Shoreline Gold, cream pickguard, narrow quartersawn neck with vintage satin finish and painted headstock. I put D'Addario Chromes on it and Wow, serious bliss! Great punch and clarity, smoother, not as aggressive as an L, a bit less of the very bottom end, and a little less of the MFD's ability to keep a full sound when playing fingerstyle up toward the neck. The tone knob is very useful without robbing all the clarity at once. Very happy to add this one to the crew, can't wait to rock it.

I have a question though: Does anyone find that Ebony boards add a lot of rigidity to the neck? The neck seems to be slower than I've experienced to accept relief, at least with the stock strings.

Hi, just a question for fellow GLeeks. If you are like me, you own several G&L basses. At this point in my life I am a hardcore hobbyist but I play my basses regularly. I am the proud owner of two Tribute L2000s, a fretless L2000 and a SB-2. If someone were to ask me which was my favorite, I'd have to say, the one I'm playing at that time. Tonight it was the black and maple Tribute, couple nights ago it was the fretless, you get the drift. Anyone else feel this way?
Yeah for sure... but I find myself settling for a certain bass for certain music i'm playing. Punk, my G&L gets the call, funk... jazz bass... disco covers... Bongo Classic rock... Sterling
So I was looking at my new SB-2 that I posted above, and I think that my neck is quartersawn even though my build sheet doesn't say that it is. Can anyone confirm?
That's definitely quartersawn, and it happens fairly often. I got it on my recent L1000 and didn't ask for it.
