All of the Fender basses I have owned in my life (about 1/2 dozen) have required a shim to get the crazy low action I desire. Do the G&Ls suffer from the same design or workmanship issues?
Every G&L I have owned has been fully capable of action so low that if you sneezed while playing you would need to turn your head to not fret a note.
the vintage L2000 doesn't work with the low low action even with the factor installed window screen shim, you get some buzzing on the e string in the middle of the fretboard, therefore it needs a little relief and a medium low setup
the 2011 sb-2 with the neck shim can get really low, but i tend to not like to go too low, because it gets a little weird to play with my finger styling

Both my custom order G&L's arrived this week! MJ-4 was ordered in april, and the M2500 was ordered in july, so there can be quite a variation in waiting times it seems! Anyway, they're both gorgeous, they both play very well, and they both sound fantastic!

Have anyone played flatwounds on a M-2500? Mine with a RW neck is still set with d'Addario halfrounds EXL170 from factory.
I have these in mind: TI Jazz flats, RS77, Chromes... I also like RS88 Nylon Blacks, but not sure of the visual impact on a RW neck?

Beautiful. At first I was shocked at how long you had to wait but then I see that you're in Norway. I'm sure that probably slowed things down a bit. I just ordered an SB-1 Fretless a few weeks ago and I hope I don't have to wait that long

These are impressive art pictures, the best I have seen here... Gorgeous and tasty models! I guess you are as good a musician as a photographer and artist.
Noticed the double K-switch. A must. Same as on my M-2500 (post #1064 above), but action is up and down on mine, more handy, I think.

Well it seems that the Fender Stealth Bass String Retainer is available separately. Does anyone know if it would work with G&L tuners?

For foreigners, what is sure is that what slows down shipping a hell is eBay's Global Shipping Program! Combined with fancy shipping costs (often 10 times USPS fare or more) and (pre-paid) fake import charges, reported lost parcels and thefts by employees at their central shipping facility, it's a trade killer.

Guys how often do old L2000 necks (3 bolt micro tilt) come up for sale. Where is the best place to look? Mine has developed a bit of a ski ramp plus the truss rod hex hole us stripped.
You shouldn't need a new neck. The truss rod nut can be replaced and a luthier shoudl be able to fix the ski jump.
Or you can get one (or more) Tribute brand new neck(s) from the G&L store at $30 (1 1/2" nut, RH RW) and $33 (1 3/4" nut, RH maple). Note these are 4-bolt (with neckplate). Check heel widths and availability.

The M2500 clocks in at 4,46kg/9.83lbs. The MJ-4 is very close at 4,43kg/9.76lbs

Well, shipping from the US to Norway only took a week out of the wait. It seems like the wait is longer the more custom options you specify, really. The M2500 was pretty much off the shelf (I did get a quartersawn neck on it, though), but the MJ-4 is fairly tricked out.
Thanks! I wouldn't call myself an artist in any way, though, and I'm not that great a musician either, hehe. And I should have cleaned the basses properly first! Yikes!
The two coil split-switches are really great, yeah. I get full control over all the coils, as they are two 3-way switches; one for each pickup. Switching is bridge coil/both coils/neck coil. So far, I actually prefer the single coil sounds, so I'm really happy that I got it modded.

How are you guys going about getting 'off the menu' options? The K mod for the L series is well known, but still isn't a 'standard' option. This is the first time I've seen K switching on an
M series bass.
There are a fistful of options G&L doesn't have that I'd really like that aren't big deals given their existing capabilities - I'd love a pickguard on a JB-2, and black blocks/binding as a neck option. I'd fork up the cash if they'd do it.
