G&L Club Part 7

Hey, guys!
Can you tell me if this (seriously damaged) bass is original?
Its pics aren´t good, unfortunatelly.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, TDR1138!

I got better pics of that bass. If it´s original, I´m planning buy its body for a bargain and then get a replacement neck for it. What do you think about it, guys?

It might be worth checking the Luthier's Corner to see if anyone has any ideas about that neck crack. That is CRAZY with a capital K.

Question: How different do the various wood options sound on the CLF Research L-1000? Not meant to start a tone wood argument, but I am curious why those woods are offered. For example, the few basses I've played with basswood tended to sounded kind of dull. I like Ash and to my ears does in fact sound different (brighter/tighter). I have no idea what Okoume soudns like. Just wondering what each combo offers.
  • basswood with Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
  • Old School Tobacco Sunburst over Okoume with Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
  • Rally Red over basswood with maple fingerboard
  • Natural Ash

Much to my surprise, was able to locate US maple fret board neck, for the 2006 Cherry Burst body! Been talking about this L2000 few posts back. After conversations with another G&L enthusiast on TB here, was able to provide me with one. Hopefully get it to me by next weekend,of 19th Jan 2019? Just dating the post. Will post my L2000 Cherry Burst, when I receive the neck. Body has some finish cracks, but not in noticeable areas, and some dings, which don't bother me that much. Not really into relic'd instruments, but it is okay.

Well, I finally installed the Geezer Bulter EMG pickup in my Tribute LB-100 today. I'm waiting for the neck to settle with the new strings to complete my setup. I will finish it tomorrow. So far I like what I hear.

I was able to remove the stock pickups and electronics as 1 piece. The install was a breeze. The kit comes with a button for extending the ground wire with another piece of wire if you need some extra length. I ended up needing more wiggle room so I trimmed half of the stock ground wire and used it.

Will report back tomorrow.

I have a CLF L2000 in basswood/maple and a CLF L1000 in okoume/caribbean rosewood. The basswood sounds great to me, it sounds like alder but with less of a mids bump than alder usually has. I hope to find an ash CLF L2000 used soon, I'd like to see how it sounds. I tend to prefer the tone of ash bodied G&Ls.
The okoume L1000 sounds excellent, the grain and tone are very similar to mahogany. It actually requires me to roll off the low end a bit sometimes, the low end and low mids are nice and full.

I've enjoyed my LB-100 so much the last few monthes, i've been on the lookout for a US JB-2.
I found one online, at GC, so of course it's a crapshoot whether it will be a keeper.
It doesn't have the original COA paperwork,so I don't know what neck i'm getting, either.
The best thing i can say about buying this way is GC has a great no questions return policy.
It should get here next week. It's a sunburst with a rosewood/dot fretboard, exactly what i prefer.
This pic is not of the bass i'm getting, but the same color combo.

Setup is complete. Forgot to mention that it was setup with a new set of EB super slinky strings. The bass sounds clear and full.
