G&L Club Part 7

Hoping to join this club sometime in the future by adding a fretted SB2. Seems that most like the fast #8 on these. I am leaning more towards the #12 though. I currently play a 76 fretless neck(standard 1.625" B neck)/MIM FrankenP and find the neck comfortable, esp the width - I find jazz necks too skinny. Any comments on how the G&L #12 vs. the #8 compare or the #12 to a 70s B-neck?

I owned a fretless L1000 as a teen in '89/'90. Anyone know what necks may have been stock on the L1000 back then, if it did happen to be a stock L1000. I feel like my current bass is very reminiscent of that second bass almost 15 years ago - not sure if it's the way it feels/plays, the tone, or both.

I have short hands too and I've pretty much gotten used to any width, though these days with my carpal tunnel, 1.5" bugs my hands because I feel like I want to wrap my thumb around the neck. If I try to keep it on the back of the neck, I hurt.

So nice! I'm debating selling my Fender J V Standard for a M2500. My wife will go BANANAS if I get a bass in & dont sell first though but she'll get over it when I eventually do sell. Buy 1st, sell later so you're buying when you dont need to & the opportunity is there.

Flats on the Fender : already stringed with Rotosound Jazz 77 flats, wonderful strings, very powerful and a tad flatter (and more 'hollow' sound) than Chromes, which I have on one of my Fender Jazzes and my SB-2.
Rounds on the LB : sorry, not for me with my old school fingerstyle playing (jazz and blues). Chromes instead, maybe TI flats.

Short hands too with me. I have no issue with G&L fivers as they are the same 1" 3/4 nut width as my Fender 4-string '62 P (the one on my avatar).

I have had both recently and decided to stick with 1.5". They are pretty close and the 1.625" is workable, but I noticed it was a little more of a stretch for me in left hand string muting. IE playing a note on the A string and using the fretting finger's tip to mute the E string.

I'd say both will be workable once you get time on them, but you'll have to the 1.625 to really tell the subtle difference.

It's in and even despite the fact that it came from Seattle to New Hampshire where it was 13 degrees this morning I managed to get it all setup with GHS Precisions. It plays great so far. I'll see how it does over the next few days.

Unfortunately though the speculation is over, the neck is not quartersawn. It's definitely flat. Oh well. It shouldn't be a problem.

Now lets all cross our fingers that this one is a keeper. It's my hope that I can make it under this time next year without purchasing anything else lol

I'll be listing my SB-2 later tonight or tomorrow.

Strongly considering ordering an SB1 and putting a Geezer pup in. Heresy I know, but my SB2 is microphonic to the point that my high gain sound is problematic. I could get them repotted but I can't go without that bass and it's as if I really need an excuse for another G&L.

I could get an LB100 but I prefer the reduced body size of the SBs and I like the #6/8 necks.
