G&L Club Part 7

Heads up guys. I ordered a fretless SB-1 from Rocket Music and I had to back out of the deal, so it's still available. The best part for the buyer is, I forfeited my deposit, so if you buy it, Greg will deduct the deposit that I already paid. It will be around $1200.

SB-1
Whiskey over Ash
Tort Guard
Unlined Rosewood Board
#11 Quartersawn Neck w/ Satin Finish

I looked at ordering a G&L a few times, and I swore the whiskey finish was only available on some certain six string guitar models.

It was only available on the Jerry Cantrell model for a long time but a few months ago they made it available on all instruments. It looks completely different over ash than it does over the maple on those guitars.

So I spent some quality time with an SB-2 today and I totally get it now.

I wondered how they could make a bass with no tone control but after playing it I realized that you can get loads of tone control by adjusting the volume of the 2 pups. And you lose very little real volume unless you put the below 1/4. Both at 1/2 gives a nice fat tone. What wizardry is this?

.
Pretty normal really. Any ordinary jazz bass works much the same way but hardly anybody knows it. The trick here is that they managed to match the output of the two pickups so it works better than most PJ's .

Hey guys I just put money down on an SB2 Tribute in white with the black pg. I've been eyeing it for close to a year now and the shop told me I could have for the used price so I had to grab it! I'm going to pick it up around the 21st of December and I'm either gonna put high beams or Rotosound 66LD on it.

A good choice with some good choices. You did well. If for some reason I needed a backup SB2 that's the one I would choose. That yellow is not very attractive IMO.

Sidenote: I am sure this has been covered ad nauseum, but man I wish the SC was silent. Sounds great, but when I use a rat with high gain that hum is like a laser.

Shielding helps a little bit.

I own 2 G&L's and cannot say a bad thing about either one. G&L is a gift from the bass gods for us lefties and I am now a G&L owner for life.

The L2000 is Blue Burst on swamp ash from 2012 with the #7 neck.

The SB-2 is a new 2014 Candy Apple Red on Alder with the #8 neck, the pic is from Facebook from the factory after the bass was complete.

My first MIM P(now a mutilated mod heavy bass like thing) was CAR and I actually really don't like that color all that much. But with the maple and black pg, that thing looks awesome.

Shielding helps a little bit.

100% shielded and grounded in all cavaties. I recently attempted to repot my pups as I believe that could be linked. Noticed a few loose wires around the SC and the treble side of the split. If the instrument wasn't so damn playable and in my preferential color combo I would have sold it for either an SB1 or another SB2. Kinda sucks that option is easier than getting replacement pups. I can't really afford the time to send them to be repotted elsewhere.

I received an MFD for my P bass recently. You can order online from G&l.

little more history....
That is interesting. I know Mr. Hyatt passed away a while back; does anyone know what happened to the early production records for G&L that he had?
Btw Audrey, how are you digging' the L1005? I'm still liking mine a lot :)
