FWIW - I just recently restrung my new-to-me L2000 with DR Pure Blues. roundwound strings on round cores. plenty flexible.
The jury is still out for me as to if I'm keeping them or not. I've got many years playing flatwounds and that's my happy, warm and fuzzy spot. I'm wanting to give rounds a chance again.
OTOH I have two brand new packs of DR Legends on a shelf... not sure which way I'm going. My L1505 is happily wearing legends.
I love DR Pure Blues on my L2500.
Great match. The round core flexibility feels great. If you generally play with a light touch they can be very expressive and dynamic.
EB Cobalt flats are also a good fit.

GHS makes round-core Boomers as well. I've no personal experience, but they get some love here on TB and have their own thread.
I looked around the local stores near me and none carry that line from GHS. Gonna have to Amazon it.
Ok question, I’ve had my G&L L2000 for a bit over a month. And I’ve finally figured out the pre and the MFC pups and how to set it to where I like it. Now the issue I’m having is I’m a hard striker for the most part. Yes I play with a pick (yes some people will call it blasphemous) but I strike hard and almost strum my strings. The issue I’m having is it feels like the strings are tight. Like there’s no give. Now I’ve got other basses which have some play or give to the tension on the strings. I tune to E standard. Does anyone else have this issue. This is a big deal for me. I have grown so fond of this bass I’ve made it my main bass over my Spector which I’ve played for over 6 years. And would hate to have to give it up for thisany advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !
I know what you're talking about - I've had my L2500 for just shy of a month now and I'm experiencing something like this too. I mentioned it in one of my other post in this thread - except I'm still trying to sort out what I'm hearing vs feeling. For example, the other night I was playing some hard, fast triplets and man, each one of the notes just kick like a mule and were super tight and punchy with no extra flub or muddiness going on. But in my case, I absolutely love that tightness because I can pull off a lot of speed-related runs much more cleanly and with more conviction than my other basses.
But on the other hand, you've also got the MFD pickups that can punch through brick walls if needed, so I'm not sure if what I'm hearing is affecting my perception of "tight strings" vs "tight tone". But as others suggested, a lower tension (or even a lighter gauge) set of strings will definitely address the physical tension - if it truly is a tension issue, that is. In my case, I'm still trying to figure that out. Best of luck getting it sorted out - and, BTW, thank you for your service!

I think it’s a tension issue. I’ve got a Custom Fender Jag which has the same neck profile and length and it’s a bit looser. I’m wondering if this is a bridge and neck tension issue. I use 45-105 gauge strings. Nothing crazy.

I want to get a white pearloid pickguard for my Tribute JB bass. Do any of you know if the USA JB and Tribute JB pickguards are interchangeable? I contacted Pickguard Heaven (who made pickguard for G&L until 2015) and they said I'd have to send them one to trace to make sure it fits. If I know that the USA and tributes are the same, I'll just order one off their site without sending one to trace.

Thank you for the link. If I read everything correctly USA instrument pickguards do NOT fit tribute instruments. I guess I'm contacting pickguardian (whom I've used before) to create one for me.
HA! The stars must be aligning! I just tried a set out last weekend on a Kilo and they are killer strings! Lot's of zip and grit but, can be mellow with a tone adjustment. I really like how they feel and will be picking up a set for a few of my G&L's and Peavey's in the near future.
Currently, my favorite strings are DR Pure Blues for bright (not brittle) dynamics.
Not all of them. The US and MIJ models are standard scale length.
Jags regained some popularity in the Squier line.

I'm also Jonesing for a black JB, maple neck w/black block inlays and satin finish (just a clean classic look). But it must be less than 8.5 lbs. I've looked through the ads on TB/Reverb/Ebay but most have gloss finish on the neck - no bueno (for me)!
I went on the G&L web site and noticed that they are not offering Empress as a body wood option. My current JB is Empress and it is an absolutely fantastic instrument. Does anyone know if they are still offering Empress as an option?

I still want one but after getting one that was defective and someone else having similar issues with theirs I'm not inclined to try again.
