I didn't quote the full post or link to it as to avoid pointing specific fingers in regards to an instrument not my own, so I appreciate the fact that you stumbled on my post of your bass.

I personally had a lesser error (gloss rather than matte) slip through.
Given my location across an ocean and a sea, I'm happy I caught it on social media rather than when it arrived at my dealer.

When I say 'extra' I just mean that I'd be fine with them setting a slightly higher price if I could actually get the QC that I'd expect from a fairly small operation that offers so many options.

Considering the current price point, I don't think it's too much to ask that they do the basics.

well , no. :-) There is a story here. Short version. Hot rodded my Fender CIJ GED with active EMG's...Wanted that Passive tone again , bought SB2-T....Still wanted that JB tone (sb is a wild animal ) , bought Burst off of the rack...Been burning through strings constantly tuning up and down (a lot ) Bought White JB to solve problem , and have A Bass that was created by me for me.
In fairness , I have tried many times since 1985 to fall in love with flats ,but it was always a fleeting love affair.

He does have separate videos for each. They are in different rooms with different mic'd cabs though. Not sure how much to gain by comparing the two videos. For example, watch Ed's Fallout video then Steve Araujo's Fallout video and how radically different they sound.

Looking for some commentary/descriptions from those that have experienced both.

I'm posting this to give a few examples of G&L neck tints. I found very few if any "non verbal" descriptions when I was trying to choose a finish for myself..
Left ... Clear Satin...6/23/17...never seen the sun
Middle...Vintage Tint Satin...4/29/20....never seen the sun
Right... Light Tint Satin...7/14/17...never seen the sun
YMMV Due to wood types , grains , and colors prior to finishing :-)

Thanks for posting those.

It's funny, I was under the impression that vintage tint was supposed to be the darkest. My vintage tint neck is the lightest of all five of my G&Ls.

What a surprise!
Yet another email returned from Reverb with a bass I'd buy right now except that IT'S TOO FREAKING HEAVY AT 9.8 LBS. This is about the 8th time. What's with G&L and heavy lumber?
Am I so different or does G&L not follow what the aging population of bassists want?
And no wonder why no one lists the weight, they are mostly boat anchors.

I just want a US. 8.5 lb or less JB or JB2 with a dark rosewood board; I don't care about the species but those Caribean rosewood with the light colored splotches are not acceptable.
I've only found a few on the used market in the last 4 months unless they were made from empress.

I bought a tribute swamp ash,JB2, with a bum neck that sounds great and weighs 8.5 lbs.
The ski jump will go away when I lower the last 5 frets and I think the rest will be OK with some fret work.

Another week of looking and I think I'll just get another Sandberg.

Look for one with an empress body.

There's other things at play here.
What is the age of all the basses?
What was the shade of each neck before being finished?
How susceptible is the finish to UV rays? And darkening as a result.

I was told that Vintage tint could be a crap shoot due to the nature of it being more on the "yellow" side of things. I went with it anyway and am quite pleased.

Wait, I'm confused about the tinted neck finishes. Granted, I haven't been keeping up with G&L for the last few years, guess I didn't notice G&L is offering "vintage" tinted neck finishes?

I was aware of their optional upgrade gun oil tinted gloss finish (my fave and worth the extra cost to me), is the vintage tint a whole different thing now?

Not sure if this is the best place for this question, but I figured someone here might know. I've got an early-mid 90s LB-100, and it is fantastic. So I was wanting to get the full factory specs on it (I think I'm at least the third owner, and the original spec sheet never made it to me). SN not registered anywhere, so wrote G&L through their general contact form. No word back (about a week). Wondering if that's the kind of question they answer and if I just should be more patient...
