Wondering that too. I've played both an aerodyne and some other Fender P/J bass. The aerodyne seemed really tame to me. I don't remember the other fender P/J being that different though his looks to have after market pickups maybe?

Jeez...were' practically neighbors. I know Mount Laurel well, I work in Hainesport and several co-workers live in Medford, Mount Laurel area. My place is out on the eastern edge of Shamong towards the Carranza Memorial.
It experienced a collision under a previous owner...it is a chunk out of the finish and not a wear mark.
The JB and Fender P both have a bell like clarity that I don't hear in MFD pickups. The MFD pickups always sound more modern and compressed. The MFD has a much larger, full spectrum sound that cuts a loud band mix More easily. The Fender PJ has Aguilar pickups in it and does the classic P more accurately. I've only had the sb-2 about a month now with no band practice but I had an L2500 before and there is a recognizable MFD sound. They work well in a complex band mix! Damn guitars are too loud but I can always hear an MFD! I think I need to install a tone control on the sb-2.
I have an identical Himalayan SB-2 with similar damage at the same location thank you Fedex. Of course it's right where my forearm rests. Bass is flawless otherwise. I'm going to relice it there.
Funny, I noticed the same issue with pick guard interchange with SX basses...
Now the factory cases cause neck damage???
So riddle me this, if you were thinking about a JB or L100, aren't the only differences between G&L and Fender are the finishes, slight difference in neck shape, sometimes weight, and pups?
I keep sending emails to Reverb and eBay sellers about the weight of their G&L's and am not happy with the outcome.
Thankfully the sell the pups separately.

Looks like Sonic Blue to me, but it could be Himalayan Blue given how lighting and background can affect color. Unless either of those has been introduced since 2004, or color names have changes since then--have to defer to someone else on any history there may be to it.
edit--though I would have guessed that svt's just a couple posts up was Sonic too, and it's Himalayan, so...
I just got a Trib Kiliton for a really good price. Love the look, the neck and it`s well built. But the pickup seems very "harsh". Could be 2 reasons for this. I fitted a new set of GHS Boomers as the stock strings were goosed. I haven`t used them before, I`m usually a d`addario nickle guy.
I play with my fingers (thumb on the pickup) and as the pickup is closer to the bridge, I`m not very keen on the sound. For the record, I dislike the sound of a Jazz pickup on it`s own.
I`m going to try a set of flats and I might put a thumbrest nearer the position of a P pickup and see if that helps. I usually run my P bass with full volume but I`m thinking the pickup is pretty hot so I will give it a try at 75% volume? Any advice from fellow owners?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news ... you are entered into the world of the famous MFD pickup. Harsh by nature, seldom tamed ( IMO) . Flats may help take the edge off , but the nature of the Kiloton is closer to a Jazz bridge sound than a p sound . Good luck with your new Bass !!!
I actually had a couple of L2000 tributes in the past (the neck were just to thick) and very briefly a clf 2000 (just didn`t gel with it and had too much cash in it not to love it) but they sounded a lot different to the Kilo as they should. I have been messing about with it this morning and playing closer to the P bass pickup spot seems to mellow it out a bit.

How's their current CLF line? I was planning on buying a CLF L-1000 eventually (never had a G&L before) and was steering more towards the new ones as the vintage ones can be pretty heavy (wanna get one below 9 lbs).
Is the QC lackluster? Anything I should worry about/watch out for? They're very rare on the used market, so I might have to spring for a new one.

Did you buy it new or used, if new do you mind if I ask where as a Kiloton has been on my GAS list for a while (and being a Yorkshireman I'm always on the lookout for a good deal).
I believe that the Tribute Kiloton has the same neck as the Tribute JB-2 which is nearer to a Jazz neck. The Tribute L2000 neck is bit on the chunky side but I love mine and last year I rediscovered it and it became my #1 gigging bass (after several years gathering dust).
Series is my default setting, I try to like parallel but it just lacks balls (IMO, YMMV of course). I guess it depends on what music you play, and many other factors.
My opinion is now and always has been that G&L is my brand. I'm sticking it out, which is easier to do because I'm doing it with 30 other people who are in the exact same position. We all love G&L, we're all seeing issues, we're all patiently waiting for the outcome.
I can't say that quality or QC is bad now, because as I mentioned earlier, G&L is capable of doing awesome. I hate to say it, but it's more about luck right now than anything... and that's not my opinion, it's a statistic.
The saving grace is... That the good dealers are there for you and they'll work you through it. You won't get screwed, but you may need extra patience. If a light G&L was in my sites, I'd be ordering it today, and if there were issues, I'd deal with them when they occurred.
Your real problem is that you have an L2000, and they're just famous around here, TB, and with all G&L fans. There's really nothing else like it. Fender and Music Man don't even come close.
Now, if you had a Kilo or an LB, then yes, you could move over to Fender fairly easily. G&L neck profiles, for the most part, are either evolutions of Fender, or direct replacements.
I don't think you're wrong to stick it out with G&L. "Pretending that there's nothing wrong", which we've recently seen a lot of, is only hurting us all. We're all riding out the storm, so there's peace of mind in knowing that you're with dozens of others, who're knowledgeable and prepared to deal with whatever comes our way.
For your needs… An empress G&L would be the answer to your prayers!
I got the white ex demo one from Andertons for £350. It had a couple of small marks on it but nothing bad. The neck is like a Jazz and it is very comfy. They have them for £419 which is still a good deal. They had a US model a few weeks ago for £999 and as I was deciding to get it or not, someone beat me to it.
I loved the sound of the 2000`s Tributes but that neck was no good for me. I will get a picture up later.
