Yea... I was looking for an SB-2 at the time too. Still kick myself over that one.
Hey question: before they went to the current 6 bolt design for the neck attach on USA models, was the previous setup a cover or are those three bolts what connects the neck to body? And is it the same design as the current Tribute neck bolts? Are there issues with the older design?
Do I feel a pic of a cherryburst L2500 with matching headstock on the horizon....?
The previous attachment was a three bolt design with a tilt adjustment. I've had no issue on the SB-2 that I have with it.
Yes please! I'm so tempted to build one like that SB-2. Ebony fingerboard, white binding, cherry burst. Maybe over a Quilt Maple top?

Guys I'm thinking of building a post COVID bass, most likely with Warmoth parts. I'm really liking the idea of putting something together like this....
....and substituting the MM pickup for an L2000 pickup.
I realise Warmoth won't rout for the G&L pickup....my related G&L question is with an L2000 pickup in that position is that close enough to the current L2000 neck position to sound roughly the same? I really like the idea of having a J bass and L1000 bass all in 1!!!

Hey that used to be my bass. It originally came with a white pearl guard. I thought it looked like crap with the pearl, so I put the black one on it. IICR, it had a #8 neck instead of the default #6 neck. That one was the creme de la creme of the seven SB-2's that have passed through here over the years.
I knew I made a mistake selling it. I swore if it ever popped up again, I'd buy it back. And then one day several years later, it did pop up on ebay for ~ $650. Great I'm in!....except that it was 2000 miles away in Portland, and "local pickup only".
Seller wants more than it's worth to me now. But if there ever was an SB-2 that warranted paying some extra cheese for, that'd be the one.
That'd be cool, but brace yourself for the price. All those upgrades add up pretty quick.
Oh, and don't forget the gun oil tinted neck, which is worth every bit of the $200 or so that G&L wants for it.

When I joined my current band last summer, they wanted to start playing some outdoor gigs so I was thinking that I might want a "beater" or backup cab or cabs. My gigging cabs are a pair of Barefaced Big Baby 2's and I've been completely happy with them. But for outdoor gigs in the summer when thunderstorms can pop up quickly, I might not want to risk having them get caught out in the rain. So I started looking around and eventually found a pair of used/mint Hartke Hydrive HD210s, one on Sam Ash's Reverb site and one on GC's used site. One was a good deal and one was a really good deal, so I ordered both. They sound very different from my BB2s, but I still like them. So now I have options for tone and also for being lazy and keeping cabs in our singer/BLs practice space.
But that was mostly just a long way of saying ... more gear.
Well, roughly. Looking at my L2500, the neck pickup is about half way between the end of a 21 fret neck and the bridge assembly. Better measurements from this or my L1000 are yours with a PM.

Has anyone here played both a Kiloton and an L2000? Maybe owned them at or around the same time? Will the L2000 be pretty similiar to the Kiloton when playing it with the bridge pickup solo'd? Do the preamp and different magnets make a huge difference in tone (with preamp flat) or just output?
I own a Kiloton, but would love to get an L2000 if it can do most of what a Kiloton can do.
