It is an alnico humbucker from the factory.Nice!
That looks like the rare alnico pickup. I’ve seen a few (not in person). I actually think I remember seeing that particular bass on Craigslist a couple of years back.
I have a set coming. I just didn't want to be disappointed with the sound on the SB-2. From the responses (Thank you all), I think I will be pleased.I currently have a set of Dunlop flats on the LB-100. They sound great, but I’m really craving a set of TIs
That must be really different from the MFD. Will be curious about your impressions, should you choose to share them. Have you played the L1000 with MFD in the past? Thx.It is an alnico humbucker from the factory.
I know, right?! Probably top 5 of theirs for me, maybe even top 3.The Grudge is a GREAT song...
And thank you for your interest! No. For GL products, I’ve only played my lb100 and my jb2 basses, both have alnico5 pickups. (Which i love). I traded ny LB for the L1k.That must be really different from the MFD. Will be curious about your impressions, should you choose to share them. Have you played the L1000 with MFD in the past? Thx.

I plugged the L1000 into my Markbass combo amp at home today, just to make sure everything was working, and to try to get an idea of the sound of it. The pickup sounds warm, full, and clear, which is exactly what I prefer. I like that you can adjust both bass and treble on a passive circuit, and also the 3 modes from the mini toggle. The OMG mode seems like it would sound great with flatwounds for a dub tone. I think this bass is going to have a light set of half-rounds installed, because i have flats on so many of my basses already. It has some stiff feeling roundwounds (dunno brand) on currently.
One of these days i may get to actually check out an MFD pickup, but I don’t really know if that sound would appeal to my ears as much anyway. This pickup seems to have plenty of power and clarity.
I still can’t get over how light it feels...my jb2 is pretty light at 8 pounds, but the L1k feels like a Hofner in comparison. There is an ever so slight tendency for neck dive, but nothing I can’t deal with.

Um, does this mean what I think it means?
I'm not even sure how to process this. I thought I was done buying basses for a long time. Now I don't even know which way is up.

NOW I’m interestedwha wha wha??? 19mm!?
Next thing you know we'll be able to get 35" scale!
! (in 19 mm, not 35”). Years ago I gave up my L2500 only because of string spacing - well, weight maybe. Would love to see a lightweight 19 mm L2500!order it with and Empress body, or swamp ash -- you'll likely get close to 8lbs total.NOW I’m interested! (in 19 mm, not 35”). Tell me about the TIs? What makes them so special?I currently have a set of Dunlop flats on the LB-100. They sound great, but I’m really craving a set of TIs
They feel way less stiff than chromes and have a nice midrange bite/clarity and sits very well in mixesTell me about the TIs? What makes them so special?
I tried a set of chromes for a while this summer and they ended up on a Squier Jazz I have. I didn't expect the zing of rounds but they I couldn't get into the tone.
