G&L Club Part 7

speaking of pickups. check the spec sheet of this new LB100 for sale. That is a new pickup that i have not seen for sale before.

The list price on this is $2950. I have issues with that since this is essentially an AO 50/60s P Bass with a Quartersawn flamed maple neck. You can get an AO for (list price) $1979. So are we really led to believe the G&L neck is worth $1000 more?

anyways spec sheet below

That’s a heck of a bass! I’ve totally got a thing for pink basses and matching headstocks, but too rich for my blood. I’ll just have to watch for it to come up used on TB!
Quite a few options on that bass: Custom Shop build, matching headstock, roasted flame 1/4 sawn neck, nitro finish, black pearl dots, special pickup. I’m sure it all adds up pretty quick and maybe a dealer markup? On Reverb, it’s only an asking price.
All that said, I agree that $3k is a lot for an LB-100, but it is a Custom Shop bass. What a beauty!

There are a few pickup winds available on the custom shop basses (Custom Shop Bass Options). As for the price, decide for yourself if it is worth it. I will note that the G&L linked is coming out of their custom shop where the Fender AO is a standard production bass. I would expect the same if not more price premium to buy an AO spec bass from Fender’s Custom Shop.

my understanding is the G&L custom shop is more like a custom option shop. They are all built in the same place by the same people and built the same way, but with various custom options. Custom shop implies that its built differently and in G&L case they are just custom options added to the production line. I found all this out when I was looking to order a custom shop matador with all sorts of options. What i was told is there are custom shop builds take 6 to 8 months. And custom option builds that are done right along with the standard builds.

I checked that link and i am familiar with it. But have not seen it in about 4 months. I dont recall all of those pickups back then and I follow all the G&L releases and dont recall seeing that pickup. Would be nice to know what it sounds like. I would assume it sounds great since their Jazz, LB100 and MFDs all sound amazing

It is worth what a person that wants it is willing to pay.

That neck is spectacular! AAA flame maple is is hard to find, most companies don't even offer it. So I'm thinking the price is based on what G&L had to pay to get the wood. That must be a bass that a customer ordered to their spec and then backed out of leaving the dealer holding the bag. I can't see any dealer laying out that much for a bass in shell pink just to have in stock.

That isn’t what we are taking about here.

Could be a customer option, but that seller has a lot of unique G&L for sale. Either they order them that way or they get a lot of people backing out.
I still don’t think a maple neck that’s baked with flame is worth $1000 more

I agree with that :) I have a insane flame maple Jazz neck that cost 200.00 complete.

If that’s what a 3A neck looks like I can only imagine what their 5A offering looks like. Maybe it is actually on fire.
