G&L Club Part 7

Hey vintage G&L fans....

Check out this very cool SB-1 on ebay. It's an early one with crinkle black hardware, alum guard, radio knobs and original headstock. Wow.

Edit: Looking closer, the pickguard may not be the alum version, might be the single layer plastic one, hard to tell. Still cool.

Hard to tell if it's Belair Green or an uber rare Viking Blue one. I'm leaning toward Viking Blue, and have never seen this model in that finish. Either way...too cool.

As I said, I'm used to a slimmer profile and the L-2000 is requiring quite an effort for me to adapt, It's wider and MUCH thicker than either my JP-90, or Epi Jack Casady (though the JC has very little taper). If I keep it (seems likely), this will be the first P style neck I've bonded with. I have yet to bond with any Fiver (well... Reasonably priced fiver).

I have a 93 L2k fretless that has a very slim neck on it, especially compared to my 2 other L2Ks, so they are out there.

It's the crinckle black aluminum guard IMHO. I guess the plastic one would have a plain/smooth surface. Except the ding on the back, the paint and finish look like new...

I'm aware, as back in '90 when I ordered a USA L-2000 (that took 2+ years to deliver, so I cancelled it with the dealer).
I specified a slim neck profile.
But the majority of Tributes I've seen have the same thick P profile mine has (hey, for $250, it's hard to complain).

Too bad about the custom. Try an M2K if you get a chance. I had a Tribute version and the neck was more like a jazz with and thickness.

With all this talk of neck profiles, how do people in the know feel about the necks of old Wunkays? I'm going to check out what looks like an 83 or 84 Wunkay, but i'd like to know how the necks on these feel before checking it out.

I had a 1984 L-1000 and that one had the shallow neck profile, too shallow for my small fretting hand (OK, the plucking hand is small as well). Then I got hold of a 1983 Hog Wunkay that had a substantially stockier and rounder neck profile. I use this one at rehearsal every week now. You will have to get the measurements or be there to pick it up, to be sure.

You'll need to have it in hand to know for sure. I have an '81 L-1000 which is wide (1 11/16") and shallow, and an '83 SB-1 which is the same width but more round and chunky, like a traditional P-bass neck.

My L-2500 Custom was delivered yesterday...
1-15/16" width at the nut!
